AIM AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to report the cases of some malignancies seen in Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) - positive patients seen at the UBTH between January 1999 and December 2003.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients that presented to the medical and surgical units of the UBTH within the period of the study and who had histologically confirmed malignant conditions and also tested to HIV were included in the study.
RESULTS: The male: female ratio of HIV-seropositivity within the period of study was 1:1.2. The highest incidence of HIV-seropositivity was in 2003 (65.1%)

A morbidity and mortality survey was carried out amongst 196 malnourished children attending the Nutrition Unit, Ministry of Health, Owina Street, Benin City, Nigeria, between January 1971 and December 1973 (morbidity) and also between October 1974 and March 1975 (mortality). Gastrointestinal disorders (77, 39.3%) and measles (67, 34.2%) predominated in both morbidity and mortality patterns. Placental malaria is caused by Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes that bind to placental tissue. Antenatal care was an efficient preventive strategy for decreasing unfavorable pregnancy outcome incidence. PURPOSE: To assess the impact of air pollution inside and outside housing on respiratory function in people living around traffic intersections.
METHODS: A descriptive analytical study was carried out from February 5 to July 5, 2006. Carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitric dioxide (NO2) were measured over an 8-hour period inside and outside 60 houses near intersections during periods of heavy and light traffic. PURPOSE: Stigma is a major burden of epilepsy. In sub-Saharan Africa the few studies that addressed epilepsy stigma emphasize enacted, rather than perceived, stigma.
