BACKGROUND: Almost always, Congo red-stained amyloid between polariser and analyser is said to show "green birefringence" or "apple-green birefringence". We describe three women with unexplained acute monoarthritis and birefringent lipid spherules or lipid liquid crystals in their synovial fluid. BACKGROUND: Oral Submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a common potentially malignant disease, which is characterized by generalized fibrosis of the oral soft tissues. It is due to disproportion in the collagen deposition and degradation. The excess deposition of collagen results in juxta epithelial fibro elastic changes and epithelial atrophy. A histochemical and topo-optical study was made of the changes of the osteocyte capsule (OC) of the cortical and spongious bone layers of the tibia and vertebra of rats with hypervitaminosis-D and rickets.
