Calcinosis cutis is an uncommon condition characterized by the deposition of calcium salts in the subcutaneous tissues of the body. Calcifications can also occur in a variety of other clinical settings and can be subjected to fine-needle aspiration (FNA). Since cutaneous calcific deposits may clinically mimic a tumor, it is feasible to diagnose them by FNA cytology (FNAC). We reported a case of calcinosis cutis by FNA in a 36-year-old male who presented with a solitary subcutaneous nodule in cubital fossa. Smears showed amorphous granular material consistent with calcium and occasional histioc…

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to reconstruct the nose. Silicone alloplastic materials are most widely used as implants for rhinoplasty, but calcification on the surface occurs with long-term usage. Herein, we report a case of gruel-like calcification approximately 50 years after silicone implant rhinoplasty. In this case, calcification on the silicone surface might have transformed into gruel-like deposits, which presented as a subcutaneous mass at the dorsal area of the nose. The precise mechanism is unclear; a pH change in the tissue might have occurred during the process of inf

Calcinosis cutis is a chronic condition involving insoluble calcified deposits of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. It is commonly associated with autoimmune connective tissue diseases and can be a source of pain and functional disability. The likelihood of developing calcinosis varies among the autoimmune connective tissue diseases, with systemic sclerosis and dermatomyositis being the most commonly associated. Identification of therapy for this challenging disorder has been hampered by a paucity of large controlled trials. Although there is no uniformly effective treatment for calcinosis cut…

A 27-year-old woman with hypoparathyroidism developed multiple firm white-yellow papules along the path of an infiltrated calcium chloride intravenous infusion. A biopsy specimen obtained ten days after the extravasation revealed an urticarial reaction. A subsequent biopsy specimen, obtained 25 days after the extravasation, showed diffuse dermal calcification, confirmed by roentgenographic analysis, with incipient transepidermal elimination. A biopsy specimen obtained 40 days after the extravasation was consistent with an elimination reaction. An increase in mast cells was not noted. Electron

A 4-year-old boy with subcutaneous tumours is described. These tumours were calcified and had secondary osteoma formation. In addition the patient showed poikiloderma on the face and less prominently on arms and legs. X-ray films of the distal metaphyses of the radius, ulna and tibia revealed irregular mineralisation. Repeated laboratory tests revealed no abnormalities of fat, bone and mineral metabolism. This patient showed a unique combination of symptoms. We propose to call this syndrome: COPS-syndrome (Calcinosis cutis, Osteoma cutis, Poikiloderma and Skeletal abnormalities).

Calcinosis cutis, although common in systemic sclerosis, has been rarely reported in patients with morphea. We describe four patients with calcinosis cutis arising within morphea plaques, discuss their treatments and outcomes, and review previously published cases. Current management recommendations for concomitant morphea and dystrophic calcinosis cutis are based on limited data and expert opinion, which has primarily focused on reduction of active inflammation and reduction of symptoms related to calcinosis or ulceration. In most cases, no improvement of calcinosis was noted. The use of intr…

Calcinosis cutis is a rare metabolic disorder characterized by cutaneous and subcutaneous deposition of insoluble calcium salts. Ocular adnexal involvement is uncommon but mostly seen in males and in the upper eyelid. Solitary lesions are more common than multiple. The treatment of choice is excision biopsy. Histopathological examination provides a definitive diagnosis. Directed systemic investigations help to rule out underlying pathologies and aids further management. The present case reports the punctal and peripunctal involvement in a case of ocular adnexal calcinosis cutis.
