Carcinosarcomas of the salivary glands are rare lesions that generally have been associated with benign mixed tumors. The authors report a case of a submandibular gland lesion, which occurred in a 64-year-old man, that was composed of intermingled ductal type adenocarcinoma and osteogenic sarcoma with a large component of osteoclast-like giant cells. BACKGROUND: Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor with a very poor prognosis. To date, only approximately 100 patients have been reported in the English literature. The prognosis of this tumor type is poor, the preoperative diagnosis is difficult, and there is a possibility of a misdiagnosis. We present an unsuccessful case of carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder with a preoperative misdiagnosis and rapid early postoperative recurrence. We report a carcinosarcoma of the pancreas in a 67-year-old woman who presented with nausea, vomiting, and painless jaundice. A work-up demonstrated a well-circumscribed mass in the head of the pancreas. Abdominal computed tomography, excretory pyelography, and retrograde pyelography demonstrated that left hydronephrosis was caused by an ureteral tumor. An adrenal carcinosarcoma is reported in a 79-year-old woman presenting with clinical signs of hyperaldosteronism. The tumor weighed 199 g and consisted of areas typical of adrenal carcinoma and areas of sarcoma. The sarcomatous component of the tumor showed osteogenic and chondroid differentiation. Vimentin stained both the carcinomatous and sarcomatous regions. Four months after resection, the patient developed metastases. This is the third reported case of adrenal carcinosarcoma and the only case in which hyperaldosteronism or bony differentiation was observed.

A fifty-five year old woman was admitted to the hospital on July 13, 1987, complaining of a one-year history of lumbago. All underwent total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, staging, and cytoreduction.
