Early afterdepolarizations (EADs) are depolarizing potentials that occur during phase 2 or phase 3 of repolarization. They can induce triggered activity and have been proposed as a cause for arrhythmias in the heart in situ. The fate of (137)Cs derived from the Fukushima nuclear accident fallout and associated radiological hazards are largely dependent on its mobility in the surface soils of forest ecosystems. Thus, we quantified microbial and adsorptive retentions of (137)Cs in forest surface (0-3 cm) soils. The K(2)SO(4) extraction process liberated 2.1%-12.8% of the total (137)Cs from the soils. The necessity is substantiated for use of apiphytoproducts in patients with duodenal ulcer who had become victims of Chernobyl accident. Apiphytoproducts were found out to accelerate the natural elimination of cesium radionuclides from the body, to normalize the indices for lipid peroxidation; they can be used on a monotherapy basis or combined with antisecretory or anti-Helicobacter drug preparations.

We evaluated the concentration of radioactive cesium in the skeletal muscles of 22 wild boars and the expression of IFN-γ, TLR3, and CyclinG1 in the small intestine and compared them with those of wild boar samples collected from Hyogo prefecture. The C - H homocoupling of meta-hydroxypyridines with phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA) was carried out in dichloromethane at room temperature in the presence of cesium carbonate. The coupling reaction is highly regioselective with respect to the hydroxy group at the pyridine ring. Comparative control experiments with meta-alkoxypyridine suggest that the meta-hydroxy group at the pyridine ring plays a key role during the homocoupling reaction.

Cloud water was sampled during 8 months, in 2008 and 2009, at the puy de Dome high-altitude atmospheric research station (France). The concentrations of (7)Be and (210)Pb, both naturally occurring radionuclides, and (137)Cs of anthropogenic origin, were determined. The new coupling reaction of phenacylamines with silylstannane and lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) is reported. The treatment of a phenacylamine iodide 1 with (trimethylsilyl)tributylstannane (Me3SiSnBu3) and cesium fluoride (CsF) gave a dimerization product 2 having no iodine atom. Reaction of 1 with LDA afforded a dimerization product 3 with an iodine atom. The products 2 and 3 were separated to the meso and racemic isomers, respectively.

The psychological stressors and their aftereffects associated with the Three Mile Island accident, the Goiania, Brazil, cesium-137 accident, and the Abadia, Brazil, storage location are summarized and compared. Cross-cultural comparisons of human responses to ionizing radiation are rare. A multidisciplinary methodological approach to examining the psychological responses to ionizing radiation is even more rare. The psychological, behavioral, neuroendocrine, and cardiovascular results are summarized for Three Mile Island, Goiania, and Abadia.
