The catalytic subunit of human DNA polymerase delta has been overexpressed in insect cells by a recombinant baculovirus. The recombinant protein has a Mr = approximately 125,000 and is recognized by polyclonal antisera against N-terminal and C-terminal peptides of the catalytic subunit of human DNA polymerase delta. Trimethylamine-N-oxide demethylase (TMAOase) is a key enzyme for the decomposition of trimethylamine oxide into formaldehyde. Eighty-one sera from 18 patients with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and high titers of antibody to ribonucleoprotein (RNP) were investigated for the presence of lymphocytotoxic antibodies. These were found in 59% sera from 14 patients but in only one of 40 normal subjects. Although lymphocytotoxic activity tended to be higher when the disease was active or there was lymphopenia, the correlation was not statistically significant. The influence of diabetes on the enzyme hexokinase (HK) was examined in the salivary glands of rats. Diabetes was induced by an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/Kg body weight) in overnight fasted rats (180-200 g). The animals were killed 48 hours and 30 days after the induction of diabetes and the submandibular and parotid salivary glands extracted for use. Hyperglycemia was evaluated by determining the blood sugar. The area occupied by each intralobular component, acini, ducts, total parenchyma and stroma was measured, and no differences were observed compared with control.

The metabolism of immunoglobulin classes has been closely examined in several animal species. Although the horse has received much attention in experimental and applied immunology there seems to be little information available on immunoglobulin kinetics in this species. The present report describes the metabolism of equine IgG in 4 healthy, normoimmunoglobulinaemic horses, in 1 horse with hyperimmunoglobulinaemia and in 1 horse with relatively low immunoglobulin levels.
