BACKGROUND: Accurate population-based data are needed on the incidence of cancer in children born after assisted conception.
METHODS: We linked data on all children born in Britain between 1992 and 2008 after assisted conception without donor involvement with data from the United Kingdom National Registry of Childhood Tumours to determine the number of children in whom cancer developed before 15 years of age. Cohort cancer rates were compared with population-based rates in Britain over the same period, with stratification for potential mediating and moderating factors, including sex, age at d

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether there were any differences in the endocrinological profiles during conception cycle and early pregnancy between a control group and women with a history of recurrent miscarriage that was caused by antiphospholipid syndrome and that was treated with aspirin and low molecular weight heparin.
DESIGN: Prospective observational study.
SETTING: Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a tertiary care centre.
PATIENT(S): Five women with recurrent pregnancy loss were recruited as cases, whereas another five women having natural cycle do

Women with Turner syndrome (TS) are subfertile due to premature ovarian insufficiency. Most women require hormone replacement therapy for attaining menarche and assisted reproductive technology (ART) using donor oocytes, autologous oocytes or in-vitro fertilisation for conception. Irrespective of the karyotype, monosomy X (45, X) or mosaic pattern, women with TS hold a very high risk for pregnancy due to high mortality rate secondary to aortic dissection and severe pre-eclampsia. Such high-risk pregnancies mandate extensive prepregnancy counselling, the need for multidisciplinary teams, close

OBJECTIVE: We sought to evaluate the effect of abnormal baseline hysterosalpingography (HSG) on subsequent fecundity during the first six cycles of treatment.
METHODS: Hysterosalpingography was performed on 208 asymptomatic ovulatory women with no history of pelvic disease who were referred for donor insemination. The findings were categorized into five groups: 1) normal study, 2) uterine anomaly or filling defect with bilateral tubal patency, 3) normal uterine anatomy with unilateral tubal patency, 4) normal uterine anatomy with bilateral tubal blockage, and 5) normal uterine anatomy with hy

STUDY QUESTION: What are the experiences of same-sex mothers following identity-release sperm donation regarding equal treatment in society, parenting stress and disclosure to child?
SUMMARY ANSWER: Mothers predominantly reported equal treatment in society, low levels of parenting stress and early disclosure of the donor conception to the child, and half of the couples had also informed the child of his/her right to obtain the donor's identity.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The number of two-mother families is increasing, and previous studies have reported about challenges related to heteronormativ…

These observations were applicable to those recipients who intended to disclose their donor conception; for those recipients who intended not to disclose, little or no transition was observed. In recent years, human anatomy education has faced challenges with traditional donor dissection, leading to the emergence of virtual dissection as an alternative. This study aims to investigate the academic performance and satisfaction of medical students by comparing the virtual and donor dissections. An open-labeled crossover randomized controlled trial was conducted with 154 first-year medical students in Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy laboratories, which were divided into three classes. Students were randomly assigned to either the virtual (virtual dissection followed by donor dissection)

RESEARCH QUESTION: What are the motives and experiences of donor-conceived persons (DCP) who search for and receive information about their identity-release sperm donor?
DESIGN: A qualitative interview study with 29 individuals (21 women, seven men, one non-binary) who were consecutively recruited after having requested information about their sperm donor at five Swedish University hospitals. All participants were conceived after donor insemination to heterosexual couples within an identity-release donation programme. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted face-to-face or via te

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to assess the outcome of pregnancies achieved by OD in vitro fertilization compared with those obtained by autologous IVF.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study includes 136 consecutive patients who were referred to our centre between 2009 and 2011. According to the mode of conception, they were divided into two groups, whose pregnancy outcomes were analyzed by χ2 Test for unpaired data.
RESULTS: Pregnancy-induced hypertension, cesarean section, complications after delivery resulted more frequent in pregnancies from donor oocyte IVF. The other outcomes

A case is described of a man who discovered years after donating sperm for artificial insemination, that he had a serious genetic disease, autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia (ADCA). This manifests itself only years after puberty and occurs in 50% of the progeny. The sperm had been used for the conception of 18 children in 13 women. The parents were only told three years after the insemination. This long time interval was unavoidable since many of the parents had to be found and the hospital director wished first to discuss the matter with his legal advisors and other experts. In future, in a

Artificial insemination using cryogenically preserved spermatozoa has been widely used in human reproduction for several decades. No evaluation of the resulting pregnancies and conceptions has been undertaken in sufficiently large study populations for minor variations to be distinguished. This study involves 11,535 pregnancies conceived by artificial insemination using donor spermatozoa and followed from the time that pregnancy was diagnosed. The pregnancies followed a normal course with, in particular, no excessive fetal losses. While the global incidence of birth defects was similar to that

The aim of this study was to examine the factors that influenced the withdrawal of couples from a regional donor insemination programme. Demographic, medical, treatment and outcome data were prospectively recorded on 375 referrals. One hundred and eight women had conceived at least 1 normal pregnancy. Withdrawals from the programme, without pregnancy, accounted for 165 couples, whilst 47 had begun treatment, and a further 29 were on the waiting list. Thirty nine (24%) of those withdrawing did so without notice or reason. Most of these (33) were in couples waiting to begin treatment. Natural co

RESEARCH QUESTION: What are the motivations, experiences and psychological correlates of social disclosure, i.e. telling other people about being donor conceived, among donor conceived young adults?
DESIGN: An online multi-method survey, designed in consultation with the UK's largest community networks for donor conception families and donor conceived people, was completed by 41 donor conceived young adults in the UK between January and August 2022. Participants were recruited through community networks, social media, university mailing lists and snowballing. Participants were mostly female (…

In France, gamete donation is based on some fundamental principles such as anonymity, gratuity, and solidarity. In Europe a trend appeared for a removal of anonymity. This paper highlights the reasons for this removal of anonymity, and consequences for the donor's offspring, the gamete donor, the infertile couples. In particular, an examination of practice shows that removing the anonymity of gamete donation favors maintaining the secrecy of the circumstances of the conception, resulting in inefficiency of the law.

A successful triplet gestation in a 45,X/46,XY woman is presented. A previously hypoplastic uterus was prepared for implantation by exogenous hormone replacement. Conception was achieved through in vitro fertilization of donor oocytes and transfer of four embryos into a hormonally primed endometrium. This case illustrates that some women with 45,X/46,XY karyotype can have a successful triplet pregnancy. Therefore, a conservative approach during gonadectomy in patients with a Y chromosome may be warranted.

Diversification of blood collection agencies' (BCAs) core business requires donors to donate substances of human origin (SoHO) beyond whole-blood. Whole-blood donors are assumed to be willing to convert to donate other SoHO as well as whole-blood. However, no reviews consider the evidence on conversion (i.e., willingness/intention, behaviour, retention, attrition). This rapid review provides a narrative synthesis of whole-blood donors' conversion to another SoHO, characteristics contributing to conversion, motives and deterrents, and interventions encouraging conversion. Sixty-five studies wer
