BACKGROUND: The Greater Khingan Mountains (GKM), located in the eastern Mongolian Plateau, are a multi-ethnic region predominantly inhabited by Mongolians, with the Han ethnic group forming the majority. The GKM serve as a vital plant germplasm resource and natural medicinal herb base in northern China. Through interactions with nature, Mongolians have developed distinctive traditional medicine cultures by discovering and utilizing wild plants for their healthcare, supported by oral traditions and practical knowledge accumulated over generations. This study comprehensively investigated the wil

BACKGROUND: Most reports of domesticated plants that involve a domestication gradient or inter-specific hybridization in Mexico have focused on those used as food. This study provides knowledge about these processes in two aromatic medicinal plants, Agastache mexicana (Lamiaceae) and A. m. subsp. xolocotziana, widely used in Mexican traditional medicine for the treatment of gastrointestinal ailments and for their sedative effect. Different populations of A. mexicana along a gradient of domestication are found in the foothills of the Popocatepetl volcano of central Mexico, while in this same ar

The enzyme xanthine oxidase catalyses the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and then to uric acid, which plays a crucial role in gout. A total of 122 traditional Chinese medicinal plants, selected according to the clinical efficacy and prescription frequency for the treatment of gout and other hyperuricemia-related disorders, have been evaluated for the enzyme inhibitory activity. Among the 122 methanol extracts derived from these species, 69 were shown to be inhibitory at 100 microg/ml, with 29 having greater than 50% inhibition. As to the equal amount of water extracts, 40 were disclosed

BACKGROUND: The traditional ethnomedicinal knowledge of the Mullu Kurama tribes, one of the oldest tribal communities in Wayanad, India, holds considerable significance. Indigenous communities in the Western Ghats have developed extensive ethnomedicinal knowledge through sustained interactions with local biodiversity. However, socioeconomic changes, reduced intergenerational knowledge transmission, and conservation challenges increasingly threaten their traditional knowledge (TK) of medicinal plants. This study aims to validate the ethnomedicinal plants used by these communities and assess the

INTRODUCTION: Respiratory disorders remain a significant public‑health concern across Europe, and traditional ethnomedical knowledge continues to play an important role in several Transylvanian communities. This study aims to document the plant species applied for respiratory conditions in Transylvania and to evaluate whether their uses are supported by current pharmacological evidence. By systematically mapping vernacular practices and comparing them with available biomedical data, we seek to clarify the therapeutic relevance and potential scientific grounding of these traditional remedies.
