Molecular partitioning and electron-transfer kinetics have been studied at the ionic liquid/water (IL/water) interface by scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). The ionic liquid C8mimC1C1N is immiscible with water and forms a nonpolarizable interface when in contact with it. Two siblings with infantile lactic acidosis and mitochondrial myopathy are described. The first child, a girl, died at 5 months of age from severe lactic acidosis after about 3 weeks of progressive muscular hypotonia. The younger brother had congenital lactic acidosis but no other symptoms until 6 months of age when progressive muscle weakness appeared. In view of evidence suggesting possible participation of cobalamin in cyanide metabolism, the effects of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) infusion on blood cyanide and plasma thiocyanate levels and serum vitamin B12 levels were examined in ten patients undergoing major orthopedic procedures. Iron (III) chloride and potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) have been tested as reagents for the determination of promazine hydrochloride and perazine.
