CONTEXT.—: M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) is the major autoantigen of membranous nephropathy (MN). As the specific antibodies of MN, the correlation between serum PLA2R antibody (sPLA2R-Ab) levels and PLA2R-associated MN (PMN) risk stratification is still controversial.

The purpose of the study is to develop a sensitive assay for the proper quantification of the acute phase protein Pig-MAP in pig saliva samples. A time-resolved immunofluorometric assay (TR-IFMA) was developed using two pig-MAP-specific monoclonal antibodies. The limit of detection of the assay was 4 ng/mL, enough to measure pig-MAP concentration in saliva. We investigated whether determination of serum transferrin receptor (TfR) is useful for detecting iron-deficiency in patients with chronic inflammatory diseases and for differentiating between iron-deficiency anaemia and anaemia of inflammation.
