Food preservative tBHQ modulates Th17/Treg balance through AHR/NRF2 xenosensors and increases the sensitivity of T cells to activation stimuli.

In this study, we investigated the effect of the food preservative tert-butylhydroquinone (tBHQ) on the activation of murine CD4+ T cells. We assessed the role of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and conducted protein interaction studies to identify potential molecular targets of tBHQ. BALB/c mice received tBHQ orally (1.5% [w/w]), after which splenic T cells (Th1, Th2, Th17, Treg) were analyzed for number and activation sensitivity. While the number of effector T cells remained unchanged, their response to stimulation was accelerat

After a period of forced abstinence, rats treated with the norepinephrine neurotoxin DSP-4 still exhibit preserved food-seeking behavior and prefrontal cortex fos-expressing neurons.

AIMS: Relapse is a common characteristic of compulsive behaviors like addiction, where individuals tend to return to drug use or overeating after a period of abstinence. PFC (prefrontal cortex) neuronal ensembles are required for drug and food-seeking behaviors and are partially regulated by Norepinephrine (NE). However, the contributions of neuromodulators, such as the adrenergic system, in food-seeking behavior are not fully understood. MAIN METHODS: To investigate this, we trained male and female rats to press a lever in an operant chamber to obtain banana-flavored food pellets for ten day

Rapid induction of Thy-1 antigenic markers on keratinocytes and epidermal immune cells in the skin of mice following topical treatment with common preservatives used in topical medications and in foods.

Earlier experiments from our laboratory revealed that the medication most commonly used for depigmenting patients with vitiligo, monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone (MBEH), when applied to the skin of DBA/2 mice caused an increase in the population density (cells/mm2) of identifiable Ia+ and ATPase+ Langerhans cells. Further, this increase in Langerhans cell density could be correlated with an increase of contact hypersensitivity (CHS) reactivity to dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB). The current experiments demonstrated that other compounds chemically similar to MBEH, such as butylated hydroxytoluene (

GUB06-046, a novel secretin/glucagon-like peptide 1 co-agonist, decreases food intake, improves glycemic control, and preserves beta cell mass in diabetic mice.

Bariatric surgery is currently the most effective treatment of obesity, which has spurred an interest in developing pharmaceutical mimetics. It is thought that the marked body weight-lowering effects of bariatric surgery involve stimulated secretion of appetite-regulating gut hormones, including glucagon-like peptide 1. We here report that intestinal expression of secretin is markedly upregulated in a rat model of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, suggesting an additional role of secretin in the beneficial metabolic effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. We therefore developed novel secretin-based pepti
