In the aging patient changes that compromise mobility may occur in the feet. Common foot pathologies are heel pain, metatarsalgia, hammertoes and clawtoes, bunions, hallux rigidus, corns and calluses, nail pathologies, arthritis, and neuropathies. To educate patients and families, nurses must be familiar with these conditions and their prevention, conservative treatment, surgical procedures, nursing interventions, and patient education.

A forty-year-old woman suffering from maduromycosis of the right sole is described with a disease history of 17 years. After a contusion and surgery for fibroma she developed an edema on the skin of the right sole, then ulcers with purulent discharge. She was repeatedly treated on an outpatient basis and in hospital by surgeons, phthisiologist, and dermatologist for osteomyelitis, tuberculosis of the bones, and Kaposi's sarcoma without effect. The diagnosis of maduromycosis of the sole was confirmed by laboratory examinations and histologically by detecting Actinomyces elements. Since conserva

In brief: The flat foot ranges in severity from imbalance caused by moderate forefoot varus to a hypermobile foot with ligamentous laxity and a plantar-flexed talus. Principal causes are soft-tissue or bony abnormalities and trauma or systemic disease. Treatment includes orthotic foot control and sometimes surgery. Sport shoes for people with pronated feet should have a very firm heel counter and should be moderately stiff.

The different causes of painful feet, most of which are obvious, but neglected, are discussed. With a good history and examination, almost all the causes can be detected and treated in a simple manner.

The inventive physician may find ways of making releasing cuts or openings with existing shoes to alleviate points of pressure. Many patient … may have to be ordered for some feet deformed beyond the capacity for ordinary shoes. Again, unless foot care is convenient and helpful in offsetting pain, the patient will usually not comply. Careful explanation of objectives for present and future is as important here as in any condition treated by family practitioners.

The more frequently occurring bone lesions of leprosy of the foot are described with illustrations from patients with leprosy seen some years previously in Sardinia. These cases are classified into groups depending on the presence of osteoporosis, osteitis, lesions with predominantly inflammatory manifestations, those with a spindle-shaped appearance and lastly those with pathological fractures. The anatomical relationship between cutaneous and bone lesions is outlined.

AIM: This study evaluated the effect of foot positioning on tissue oxygenation in patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
METHODS: A randomized clinical trial was conducted from February to July 2025. Sixty hospitalized patients with diabetic foot ulcers were recruited by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to either the control group (supine position) or the intervention group (15°foot elevation for 24 h). Physiological outcomes including transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2), ankle-brachial index (ABI), toe-brachial index (TBI), toe pressure (TP) were measured before and after the inter…

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine the association of preulcerative foot care and outcomes of diabetic foot ulcerations (DFUs).
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study using the Mariner all-payers claims data set included participants with a new DFU from 2010 to 2019. Patients were stratified into two cohorts (foot care and control) based on whether they had received any outpatient foot care within 12 months before DFU. Adjusted comparison was performed by propensity matching for age, sex, and the Charlson Comorbidity Index (1:2 ratio). Kaplan-Meier estimates and logistic…
