[A Case of Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Horseshoe Kidney].

We reported a case of sigmoid colon cancer with horseshoe kidney. A 79-year-old man had lower abdominal pain and underwent colonoscopy. The results of colonoscopy revealed sigmoid cancer. Preoperative computed tomography revealed horseshoe kidney. He underwent radical laparoscopic surgery. The histopathological diagnosis was pStage Ⅱa(The 9th Edition). He has not recurred 22 months later after operation. Surgery for colorectal cancer with congenital anomalies of the urinary tract requires attention to intraoperative secondary injuries. Therefore, preoperative evaluation using 3D-CT is useful t

Right lump kidney with varied vasculature and urinary system revealed by multidetector computed tomographic (MDCT) angiography.

Renal ectopia also known as ectopic kidney is an embryological renal anomaly characterised by abnormal anatomical location of one or both of the kidneys. This can occur in various forms such as (1) crossed fused renal ectopia, (2) ectopic thoracic kidney and (3) pelvic kidneys. The lump kidney is one of the six variations of crossed fused ectopic kidney. Throughout life, the patient may remain asymptomatic, however, symptomatic patients may present with minor traumatic injuries due to the abnormal location or normal kidney pathologies. During normal embryological development, there is cephalic

Robot-assisted modified bilateral dismembered V-shaped flap pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction in horseshoe kidney using KangDuo-Surgical-Robot-01 system.

PURPOSE: Horseshoe kidney (HSK) is the most common renal fusion anomaly, occurring in 0.25% of the population (1). It presents technical obstacles to pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) despite robotic assistance (2, 3). KangDuo-Surgical-Robot-01 (KD-SR-01), an emerging robotic platform in China, has yielded satisfactory outcomes in pyeloplasty (4, 5). We first describe our modified technique of robotic bilateral pyeloplasty for UPJO in HSK using KD-SR-01 system in the Lithotomy Trendelenburg position. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 36-year-old man with HSK and bilateral UPJO

Robot-assisted heminephrectomy for chromophobe renal cell carcinoma in L-shaped fused crossed ectopia: Surgical challenge.

Renal cell carcinoma associated with fused ectopic kidneys has rarely been reported in the literature. Here we report the first case of robot-assisted heminephrectomy for chromophobe renal cell carcinoma in an L-shaped fused ectopic kidney. The present case report highlights the importance of three-dimensional vision and enhanced maneuverability with the EndoWrist technology of the robotic surgical system for precise dissection. This report also highlights the importance of preoperative contrast-enhanced computed tomography with three-dimensional arterial reconstruction for surgical planning.

Unusual Presentation of Renal Cell Carcinoma in Crossed Ectopic Kidney.

INTRODUCTION: Crossed renal ectopia is a rare anomaly and ninety percent of crossed ectopic kidneys are fused to their ipsilateral mate. Based on autopsy findings, the incidence has been estimated to be one in 2000 individuals. CASE PRESENTATION: We hereby report on a 53-year-old woman with two episodes of painless gross hematuria. Imaging revealed left side fused crossed renal ectopia and filling defect within the pyelocaliceal of crossed kidney. CONCLUSIONS: The patient underwent surgery applying a midline incision. The left kidney showed a lump pattern embedded in lower pole of the right

Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer in a patient with a horseshoe kidney: A case report.

A 52-year-old, Japanese man presented to the hospital with a complaint of anal bleeding, and detailed examination resulted in a diagnosis of locally advanced rectal cancer. The patient underwent total neoadjuvant therapy followed by short-course radiation therapy and consolidation chemotherapy, which provided a partial response. After preoperative contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a horseshoe kidney, robot-assisted, precise, laparoscopic, low anterior resection with D3 dissection and ileostomy construction was performed. The horseshoe renal isthmus was elevated surrounding the infer

Robot-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy in a High-Complexity Renal Tumor in a Horseshoe Kidney.

INTRODUCTION: Horseshoe kidney is an uncommon congenital fusion anomaly that can make renal tumor surgery especially challenging because of altered rotation, limited mobility, variable vascular supply, and an unpredictable collecting system (1-7). This video presents a robot-assisted partial nephrectomy for a high-complexity renal tumor in this setting. CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old man, with ECOG 0 and no relevant comorbidities, was diagnosed with a 7.5-cm solid renal mass in the central posterior portion of the left moiety of a horseshoe kidney. The lesion had a RENAL score of 10p. Contr

Supine mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy in horseshoe kidney.

OBJECTIVE: The percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in Horseshoe kidneys (HSK) is usually performed in the prone position, allowing entry through the upper pole and providing good access to the collecting system. However, in patients with normal kidney anatomy, the supine position is reliable and safe in most cases, but it is unknown whether the supine position is adequate in patients with HSK. The purpose of this study was to describe the results of PCNL in HSK in three different surgical institutions and to evaluate the impact of supine position during surgery, comparing pre-operative and pos

Synthesis of neocryptolepines and carbocycle-fused quinolines and evaluation of their anticancer and antiplasmodial activities.

This study reported the discovery of novel compounds containing five-membered ring fused quinoline core structures as anticancer and antimalarial agents. Two libraries containing these core structures, neocryptolepines and carbocycle-fused quinolines, were prepared and evaluated. Compound 3h was found to be much more potent than other analogs against cancer cell lines with high selectivity. Meanwhile, carbocycle-fused quinolines 5h and 5s showed moderate anticancer properties but much less cytotoxicity to normal cell than doxorubicin. In addition, compound 3h also showed much lower cytotoxic a

Metabolic and surgical predictors in horseshoe and pelvic ectopic kidneys.

BACKGROUND: Horseshoe kidney (HSK) and pelvic ectopic kidney (PEK) are congenital anomalies linked to impaired urinary drainage and a higher risk of nephrolithiasis. Evidence regarding metabolic profiles and surgical outcomes in these groups remains sparse. This study assessed predictors of postoperative stone clearance and 12-month recurrence in patients with HSK and PEK undergoing endourological procedures intervention. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 50 consecutive patients with CT-confirmed HSK or PEK treated with retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) or mini-percutaneous

Anatomical features of coexisting horseshoe kidney and double inferior vena cava.

To describe a rare case of coexisting horseshoe kidney (HSK) and double inferior vena cava (DIVC) observed during a cadaveric dissection course and to analyze the embryological and clinical implications of this anatomical variation. A detailed anatomical dissection of a 96-year-old Japanese male cadaver was performed during a gross anatomy course. The kidneys were fused by a fibrous and parenchymal isthmus below the inferior mesenteric artery. Four right renal arteries and three left renal arteries were identified, along with an additional renal vein arising from the isthmus and coursing to th
