More than a decade ago, an increased risk for bladder cancer among male hairdressers was established. Frequent changes of hair dye formulations together with their widespread use call for safety guarantees. A new and versatile method for linking biologically active ligands to a polyacrylamide matrix is reported. Active esters of acrylic acid (N-succinimicyl acrylate and N-phthalimidyl acrylate) were synthesized, then copolymerized with acrylamide and N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide. A method for preparation of a gel for chromatography has been developed. The adsorbent is calcium tartrate treated with potassium phosphate.
