Giant cell tumors (GCT) of the spine are rare. We report a case of (GCT) of the third lumbar vertebra revealed by left lumbar radiculopathic thigh pain in a 47 year old man. Imaging showed an osteolytic process invading the vertebral body, the posterior arch and compressing the dural sac left side. Neurological decompression was first performed including stabilization by an instrumented postero-lateral graft. A surgical biopsy was obtained at the same time to confirm the diagnosis. A secondary L2-L4 tumor curettage and graft procedure did not prevent, 5 years later, tumor recurrence. We believ

A fibroadenoma in the female breast is described, which contained multiple multinucleated giant cells within the stroma. The investigation indicated the giant cells to be of epithelial nature, caused by epithelial degeneration secondary to myoepithelial swelling of unknown cause. Their presence and morphology could cause anxiety about malignancy, but this was found groundless.

Almost all types of germ cell tumors are known to occur in the third ventricle-pineal region. In this paper we report the case of a 16-year-old boy having a particular subtype of germinoma of the pineal body in which scattered syncytiotrophoblastic cells positive for human chorionic gonadotropin were found. This tumor is considered the central nervous system counterpart of seminoma with syncytiotrophoblastic giant cells and dysgerminoma with syncytiotrophoblastic giant cells.

Necrotizing arteritis with giant cells, involving the aorta, pulmonary and coronary arteries, and coronary, splenic, and renal arterioles was found at necropsy in a 74-year-old male who had died with severe haemolytic anaemia associated with cold haemagglutinins. The clinical and pathological features of this case are shared by well-recognized forms of necrotizing angiitis, in particular giant cell arteritis, but do not conform satisfactorily with any of these disorders. Cold agglutinin haemolytic anaemia in this instance suggests the possibility of an autoimmune aetiology.

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) is a benign reactive lesion that typically arises from the gingiva or edentulous alveolar ridge. Although superficial pressure resorption of the underlying bone has been described, extensive cortical erosion mimicking a central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is exceptionally uncommon, particularly in pediatric patients, creating a significant diagnostic challenge.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old boy presented with an exophytic gingival mass involving the right mandibular alveolar ridge. Although the lesion appeared clinically peripheral, cone

BACKGROUND: Different giant cell-rich tumors may occur in the jaws. Recently, a new condition known as keratin-positive giant-cell rich tumor harboring recurrent HMGA2::NCOR2 fusions has been described. Interestingly, the mononuclear cells of this tumor are immunoreactive with the AE1/AE3 keratin. Considering the similarities of central and peripheral giant cell granuloma of the jaws with the keratin-positive giant cell-rich tumor of the soft tissue and bone, we hypothesized whether the keratin-positive tumors could also occur in the maxillary bones.
METHODS AND RESULTS: An immunohistochemica

PURPOSE: To describe a patient presenting with suspected giant cell (temporal) arteritis (GCA) in whom subsequent temporal artery biopsy sho … nt with calciphylaxis. In addition, the tunica media of the affected artery contained multinucleate giant cells, but these represented osteoclasts and foreign body giant cells reacting to calcium, rather than a part of GCA.
RESULTS: This is a rare report of metaplastic ossification and the finding of non-GCA-related giant cells in the tunica media of the tem …

Here, the authors describe a case of giant-cell anaplastic carcinoma with osteoclastic giant cells of the chest cavity-which could be a distinctive form of thymic carcinoma-which expressed CD5 and CD45. To the authors' knowledge, there has been no previous report on this subject. A 62-year-old woman presented with continuous pain in the left back associated with coughing and shortness of breath for more than 2 months prior to referral to the hospital. Palliative resection of a mediastinal tumor was performed. During the operation, it was found that the mass occupied most of the chest invading …

Poorly differentiated endometrial carcinomas of specific type include the rarely reported endometrial carcinoma with a malignant giant cell … The giant cell component in all cases consisted of poorly cohesive nests of bizarre multinucleated giant cells with mononuclear tumor cells. A striking peritumoral and intratumoral inflammatory cell infiltrate composed of lymphocytes, plasma cells and focal eosinophils, and neutrophils was present and emperipolesis was noted in 4 of the 5 cases. The giant ce …

A case of a giant cell tumor of the right proximal femur that developed malignant change following surgical treatment ("secondary" malignant giant cell tumor) is presented. The patient had a cystic lesion that was initially interpreted as an aneurysmal bone cyst. A local recurrence six months later demonstrated the histological features of typical giant cell tumor. A further recurrence 22 months after the original treatment showed histological malignancy. Death was due to massive local recurrence and to extension of the malignancy to the pleura.

A 22-year-old man with Marfan's syndrome and a history of antinuclear antibody-positive hepatitis died 25 days after undergoing cardiac valve replacement surgery for mitral valve prolapse. Giant cell myocarditis was found at autopsy. The multinucleated giant cells were shown by immunoperoxidase techniques to contain lysozyme, but not myosin or creatine phosphokinase, suggesting that they were derived from macrophage, rather than myocyte, precursors.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The central giant cell lesion (CGCL) is a benign intraosseous lesion that may resemble other giant cell-rich lesio … n in CGCL. The aim of this study was to compare mononuclear cell phagocytosis by the multinucleated giant cells between aggressive, non-aggressive CGCL and PGCL.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty-three cases of CGCL, 10 aggressive and 23 non-aggressive, and 20 cases of PGCL were included in this study. Phagocytosis events were evaluated in five consecutive micros …

Giant cell tumors and pseudogiant cell tumors of the jaws are divided into cherubism, central giant cell granuloma (CGCG), aneurysmal cyst, … l treatment must be conservative. Anatomopathology gives the histologic diagnosis, with presence of giant cells. Some tumors are locally aggressive leading to larger bone exeresis. The nosology of these giant-cell tumors remains unclear, especially for giant cell central granuloma and giant cell tumors.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common form of vasculitis affecting patients above the age of 50. Over the past few decades, our understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and treatment of the disease has increased tremendously. We now recognize that there is more than just the compromise of the temporal artery and its branches. Advances in technology and immunology have led to new diagnostic imaging methods and more targeted treatments with fewer side effects. The aim of this review is to summarize the advances in the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of GCA.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the most common systemic vasculitis in older adults and is a medical emergency due to the potential for irreversible visual loss and stroke in the acute phase and aortic complications in the longer term. Prompt recognition of the condition and immediate initiation of glucocorticoids remain central to management and advances in therapy, particularly with tocilizumab in the first 12 months, have reduced glucocorticoid-related morbidity. Upadacitinib has recently been shown in phase 3 trials to be effective, and its place in the Australasian therapeutic landscape wil
