The analysis comprises a principal component analysis and a regression analysis. In a model controlling age, gender and subjective anxiousness and/or depression, a high level of health information literacy was associated with higher DSE. The model explained over one-third o

Periodontal health literacy in Germany-Results of a telephone survey.

OBJECTIVE: Assess the periodontal health literacy of German adolescents, adults and senior residents. BACKGROUND: The prevalence of periodontitis is high. One explanation for this may be that people lack periodontal health literacy (PHL). METHODS: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Former participants of the 5th German Oral Health Study (n = 333 16-year-olds, n = 307 39-48-year-olds, n = 332 69-78-year-olds) participated in a computer-assisted telephone interview. Open-ended questions (OEQs) were used to assess the participants' current knowledge. Corresponding single- and multipl

This is critical to understand in areas of the world where access to healthcare services is limited or unavailable. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the moderating influence of access to care on the relationship between parent HL and child health outcomes in Mexico. Using a geographically stratified convenience sample survey design, we gathered a sample of 373 parent-child dyads throughout M

Health literacy as a social vaccine in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a novel virus in the coronavirus family, causing the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Biomedical vaccines are key but alongside biomedical vaccines, a social vaccine can be similarly useful to prevent infection from SARS-CoV-2, if applied as a health promotion strategy. In order to slow down and control the spread of SARS-CoV-2, applying the social vaccine concept should be considered in parallel. From a health promotion perspective, a social vaccine is a process of social and political mobilization driven by governmental and n

Development and validation of a Systemic Sclerosis Health Literacy Scale.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Health literacy levels are strongly associated with clinical outcomes and quality of life in patients with chronic diseases, and patients with limited health literacy often require more medical care and achieve poorer clinical outcomes. Among the large number of studies on health literacy, few studies have focused on the health literacy of people with systemic sclerosis (SSc), and there is no specific tool to measure health literacy in this group. Therefore, this study plans to develop a health literacy scale for patients with SSc. METHODS: This study included 428 SSc pati

Promotion of Mental Health Literacy in Adolescents: A Scoping Review.

In recent years, there has been an important commitment to the development of programs to promote mental health literacy (MHL) among adolescents, due to the prevalence of mental health problems and the low level of MHL that affects this group. The aim of this study was to map the structure and context of programmes/interventions for promoting MHL among adolescents in school settings. A scoping review was conducted following the guidelines of The Joanna Briggs Institute. We searched for studies on programmes/interventions promoting at least one of the components of MHL of adolescents, written i

Promoting health equity through health literacy interventions in educational institutions: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Disparities in health outcomes have been associated with inequitable access to health literacy and services. Additionally, reduced health literacy may lead to an unhealthy lifestyle, causing a decrease in quality of life and social inequities. Advancing health literacy is vital in educational organizations to curb gaps in social inequities. Adapting strategies to promote health literacy is essential for advancing equitable and effective educational organizations. Therefore, policies and interventions should aim to address any barriers that threaten inequities in the educational org

Interventions to Enhance COVID-19 Pandemic Health Literacy in Health Professionals: Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a significant burden on health professionals (HPs). They face higher infection risks due to the nature of their work environment and patient care responsibilities. Their ability to access and apply reliable COVID-19 information affects their own preventive behavior and that of those around them. In this context, health literacy (HL) has become increasingly important. Despite extensive research, information to foster COVID-19-related HL in HPs remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aimed to identify, appraise, and synthesize intervention
