A club foot or flexural deformity may affect a horse at any stage of life from neonate through adulthood. The emphasis of this article is on defining and recommending the appropriate farriery for flexural deformities involving the deep digital flexor tendon and the distal interphalangeal joint. Clinical management of the flexural deformity is influenced by the severity, duration, and etiology of the club foot as well as the degree and source of lameness. Also discussed is the management of mismatched hoof angles, which remains a controversial subject for both farrier and veterinarian.

Forty-four patients with acute skin loss or chronic scarring around ankle were treated by skin transplantation for covering the skin defect or replacing the scar tissue as well as restoring sensation. 13 of them were treated by pedicled sensorineural island flap, 23 by sensorineural free flap, and 8 transplanting sensorineural band into the skin flap. Heel pain is a frequent disabling symptom. Clinical diagnosis is often difficult with a large range of possible diagnoses. Lesions of the plantar fascia form an important group. We present a review describing the common lesions of the plantar fascia, including plantar fasciitis, plantar fascia rupture, plantar fibromatosis, and plantar xanthoma, and illustrate them with appropriate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound imaging. We also address foreign-body reactions, enthesopathy, and diabetic fascial disease.

Chronic decubitus ulceration of the heels is a common condition encountered by podiatric physicians, especially in diabetic patients. Very often these ulcerations can progress to osteomyelitis of the calcaneus. Many times, this in turn leads to a below-the-knee amputation. A partial calcanectomy is a viable alternative to below-the-knee amputation. This study demonstrates magnetic resonance findings in 16 patients (25 heels) with heel pain. Sixteen of 25 (64%) studies demonstrated abnormalities which could be related to the etiology of their heel pain. One latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap and five radial forearm flaps were used in reconstruction of weight-bearing parts of the heel and sole, the follow-up period being 7 to 38 months. Additional injuries such as forefoot amputations or amputations of the other leg were present in four patients. There was no flap loss. In brief Osteochondritis dissecans of the calcaneus is a condition that results in a small fragment of bone and cartilage being deposited between the calcaneus and the Achilles tendon and causes pain on the posterior aspect of the calcaneus. This paper discusses how the condition can be differentiated from other causes of posterior heel pain so a proper treatment plan can be started. Two case histories of individuals with different levels of activity are presented to demonstrate this condition.
