An improved hemagglutination (HA) test using the purified specific f2 antigen of Fasciola hepatica has been evaluated with respect to its potential use in the diagnosis of caprine fasciolosis. Following experimental infection of 1-year-old goats with a single heavy infection of 300 metacercariae, f2-specific antibodies were detected 2-3 weeks after infection and increased steadily to reach a maximum titer 9 weeks after infection, after which the antibody level declined. In animals receiving multiple infections of a lower dose of 50 metacercariae given at weekly intervals for 6 weeks, f2-specif

The indirect fluorescent antibody test and a microhemagglutination technique detected antibodies in human sera to Legionnaires' disease antigen about equally. Since the hemagglutination technique was simpler, more rapid, and less expensive, we used it to ascertain the prevalence of antibody in 1200 sera from apparently healthy, nonhospitalized Michigan residents. Prevalence was analyzed by age, sex, geographic location (county or residence), and season of the year. There was a significant difference in prevalence between seasons: 91 of 600 sera (15.2%) from February to March 1978 had a titer e

An indirect hemagglutination antibody (IHA) test was evaluated for its ability to detect borrelial antibodies in serum samples from patients with Lyme disease. The key test reagent developed for this antibody detection system was tannic acid-treated and glutaraldehyde-fixed sheep red blood cells (SRBC) containing Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) antigens attached to the outer surface of the SRBC. In order to establish suitable cut-off titers, initial specificity and sensitivity measurements were made using sera from 100 anonymous healthy volunteers and 30 additional pre-determined samples known to be

An improved hemagglutination (HA) test using the purified specific f2 antigen of Fasciola hepatica has been evaluated with regard to its potential use for early diagnosis of infection. On experimental infection of beef calves 6-8 months of age, f2-specific antibodies were detected 2-4 weeks after inoculation and persisted at high levels during the 28 week experimental period. On natural infection of dairy calves, 6-9 months of age, allowed to graze in infected fields from April to June, 48% of the animals were positive in July although coproscopic analyses were negative. In November all the ca

Statistical analysis of the results of examinations of vaccinees against plague has revealed that the values of the neutrophil damage index (NDI) and antibody titers as determined in the passive hemagglutination (PHA) test qualitatively (but not quantitatively) correlate. The statistical series for the PHA test and NDI belong to different variations, i. e. they describe different functions of antibodies with respect to the same antigen. Besides, the determination of NDI permits the detection of antibodies in 95% of cases with probability equal to 0.06, while the PHA test determines antibodies
