In the present study, the possible mechanisms by which interferon (IFN)-gamma affects pregnancy were investigated using the cytokine network model. The IFN-gamma-induced expression of interleukin (IL)-1beta was examined using western blotting, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. The results showed that IFN-gamma treatment significantly decreased the expression of uterine IL-1beta protein during the preimplantation, post-implantation and mid-gestation periods. The regulation of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) production was studied in patients with meningococcal disease. Circulating TNF and IL-1beta normalized within 1 day. TNF mRNA and IL-1beta mRNA in white blood cells decreased over 3-4 days. The purpose of the present study was to examine the regulation of levels of apolipoprotein B (apoB) mRNA and its protein by cytokines in HepG2 cells.
