Validity and reliability of a checklist for patients with Behçet's disease based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health.

In 2020, we reported the "BD-checklist 92" for patients with Behçet's disease (BD) based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of this checklist. Questionnaires using the "BD-checklist 92" and the 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36) were sent to ten affiliated institutions. In total, 174 patients answered the questionnaire (response rate, 32.7%). Criterion validity was evaluated using the correlation coefficient between the number of problem categories extracted from the "BD-checkli

Association between Financial Conflicts of Interest and International Labor Office Classifications for Black Lung Disease.

Rationale: The U.S. Department of Labor administers the Federal Black Lung Program (FBLP), an administrative system charged with managing claims by coal miners for workers' compensation for totally disabling coal mine dust lung disease. Specific case reports have raised concern that financial conflicts of interest (COIs) may systematically bias physicians when they are classifying chest X-rays (CXRs) for the absence, presence, and severity of pneumoconiosis. Objectives: To evaluate the direction and magnitude of association between financial COIs of physicians participating in the FBLP and int

Validation of inpatient international classification of disease ninth revision codes as predictors of venous leg ulcers.

Venous leg ulcers (VLU) comprise about 70% of lower leg wounds and cost more than 14 billion USD per year. Patients with VLU are often admitted to the hospital; however, epidemiological study of this important patient subset is challenged by lack of validated database search protocol. Five International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 9 codes were identified for their relationship with VLUs (454.0, 454.2, 459.11, 707.9, and 707.10). The ICD9 code was considered to successfully predict a VLU if the wound was located in the gaiter area and had either relevant clinical findings, a positive venou…

Validation of an International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision coding algorithm to identify decompressive craniectomy for stroke.

BACKGROUND: Although International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD9-CM) coding is the basis of administrative claims data, no study has validated an ICD9-CM algorithm to identify patients undergoing decompressive craniectomy for space-occupying supratentorial infarction. METHODS: Patients who underwent decompressive craniectomy for stroke at our institution were retrospectively identified and their associated ICD9-CM codes were extracted from billing data. An ICD9-CM algorithm was generated and its accuracy compared against physician review. RESULTS: A t

Psychometrics of the Personality Inventory for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to measure the international classification of diseases trait model: A meta-analysis.

Although the Personality Inventory for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; PID-5) was initially designed to assess the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.) trait model, a modified scoring algorithm was developed to evaluate the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (11th ed.; ICD-11) trait model constructs. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the internal (structural and discriminant types) and external (convergent and criterion types) validity of the PID-5 to measure the ICD-11 trait model constr

Diagnostic Accuracy of International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) Codes for Vertebral Artery Dissection and Its Complications in Japan: A Single-Center Validation Study.

INTRODUCTION: Vertebral artery dissection (VAD) is a leading cause of cerebrovascular disease in young and middle-aged adults. Although medical claims databases facilitate large-scale observational studies, validated case-identification algorithms for unruptured VAD and its complications remain limited. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes for identifying unruptured VAD and its complications in Japanese medical claims data. METHODS: We conducted a single-center cross-sectional validation study using electronic medical …

Evaluation of diagnostic ('classification') criteria in Behçet's disease--towards internationally agreed criteria. The International Study Group for Behçet's disease.

No fewer than five sets of diagnostic criteria for Behçet's disease are currently in use. The International Study Group have therefore undertaken an extensive study of existing criteria and have developed recommended new international criteria based on the collection of data from 914 patients with Behçet's disease and controls, of whom 886 (97%) and 97 respectively had mouth ulceration. It is recommended that these new criteria should replace the existing criteria sets although further studies are required to evaluate their performance in new patient groups.
