Intradermal allergy tests using 47 selected local aero-allergens were performed on 114 dogs with atopic dermatitis. The subject animals visited the Dermatology Unit at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Kasetsart University or the SLV Pet Hospital with chronic pruritus and various skin lesions. The Casoni intradermal (ID) test, using two antigens, was compared with the immunoelectrophoresis (IEP) test for diagnosis in 47 surgically confirmed cases of hydatid disease and 73 non-hydatid persons. A 5 year-old boy experienced anaphylaxis after eating a jelly product for diet supplement containing erythritol as a major component. Prick test with the jelly product was negative, but the second oral ingestion of the jelly product at home caused another allergic reaction. The results of intradermal testing with three commercial flea antigens and a serological test for IgE antibodies to flea antigens were compa … ivity and specificity of the serological test was 0.88 and 0.77, respectively. Sensitivities of the intradermal tests at the four time points ranged from 0 to 0.33, whereas the specificities ranged from 0.78 to 1.0. Live flea challenge is better able to detect cats with hypersensitivity to fleas than either intradermal or serological testing.
