Hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome (HIES) is one of the primary immunodeficiencies characterized by recurrent staphylococcal skin and lung infections that result in lung destruction and critically diminished pulmonary function. Despite the lack of definitive treatment, there have been no reports of successful lung transplantation for HIES patients. A 13-year-old boy with hyperimmunoglobulin E (hyper-IgE) syndrome presented with headache, blurred vision, photophobia and bilateral papilledema due to cryptococcal meningitis. Treatment with amphotericin B, and S-fluorocytosine for several weeks and repeated lumbar punctures did not reduce the intracranial pressure, and a myeloperitoneal shunt was performed. The child was maintained on fluconazole for an additional six months. Patients with hyper-IgE syndrome are at increased risk of opportunistic fungal infections such as cryptococcal meningitis.

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of occupationally related musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) symptoms and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) among construction apprentices in Hungary. Hyperimmunoglobulinemia E (Job or Buckley) syndrome is an immunodeficiency disease associated with recurrent pyogenic infections, chronic eczematoid dermatitis, and mucocutaneous candidiasis. Association of this condition with osteoporosis and recurrent fractures is presented by a case report and by review of other reports describing similar findings. Other immunodeficiency syndromes with associated skeletal abnormalities are discussed.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association and impact of occupational exposure and diseases of the shoulder and neck. Prevalence rates, odds ratios, aetiological fractions, and their confidence intervals were computed for pooled and non-pooled data of previous published reports.
