Spot size matters: enhancing rosacea treatment with pulsed-dye laser.

The importance of spot size in pulsed dye lasers for treatment of rosacea is frequently undervalued. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of 7-mm and 10-mm spot sizes of a 595-nm pulsed dye laser for treating erythematotelangiectatic rosacea.Twenty participants with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea were enrolled and received three treatments at 4-week intervals. The left and right cheeks were treated with a circular beam with diameters of 7 mm and 10 mm, respectively. The pulse duration was 10 ms. Therapeutic energy was adjusted by 5-10% based on the immediate reaction after treatment. The

Adjunctive Pulsed Dye Laser Therapy for Paronychia Induced by Anticancer Agents.

BACKGROUND: Paronychia is a common side effect of anticancer therapies, particularly epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFRIs). Standard treatments often provide limited relief. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) therapy at 595 nm, with vascular-targeting and anti-inflammatory effects, may serve as an effective adjunctive treatment. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of adjunctive 595-nm PDL therapy in the treatment of paronychia induced by anticancer drugs, particularly EGFRIs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective pre-post study included 70 digits with anticancer drug

Weekly Pulsed Dye Laser Treatments for Port-Wine Birthmarks in Infants.

IMPORTANCE: Early treatment of port-wine birthmark (PWB) can be life-altering and is often associated with improved outcomes and quality of life. There is growing evidence that shorter treatment intervals may play a role in more rapid PWB clearance; however, the optimal treatment interval has not been established. OBJECTIVE: To describe the outcomes of once-weekly pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatments for PWB in infants. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This case series analyzed the medical records of patients with PWB who received once-weekly PDL treatments between January 1, 2022, and Decemb

Effectiveness of Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment in Tufted Angioma: A Promising Intervention.

INTRODUCTION: Tufted angioma (TA) is a rare benign vascular tumor usually occurring in the first year of life. It may present as reddish papules or purplish red to black plaques. Tender lesions commonly affect the neck, upper trunk, and shoulders. Histologic tufts of capillaries infiltrating the dermis in a "cannon ball" distribution pattern confirm the diagnosis. However, effective treatments for TA are scarce. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is an alternative therapy for TA, particularly concerning cosmetics and pain relief. This case report demonstrates the effectiveness of PDL as a treatment for TA

Effects of pulsed dye laser treatment in psoriasis: A nerve-wrecking process?

Pulsed dye laser (PDL) therapy can be effective in treating psoriasis, with a long duration of remission. Although PDL therapy, albeit on a modest scale, is being used for decades now, the underlying mechanisms responsible for the long-term remission of psoriasis remain poorly understood. The selective and rapid absorption of energy by the blood causes heating of the vascular wall and surrounding structures, like perivascular nerves. Several studies indicate the importance of nerves in psoriatic inflammation. Interestingly, denervation leads to a spontaneous remission of the psoriatic lesion.

Clinical Outcomes of Small Infantile Hemangiomas Treated With Pulsed Dye Laser.

BACKGROUND: Infantile hemangioma (IH) often causes cosmetic disfigurement. Early intervention with propranolol for large, high-risk lesions is recommended in the American Academy of Pediatrics' Clinical Practice Guideline. Conversely, strategies for the management of small, low-risk lesions have not been established; however, pulsed dye laser (PDL) is often used to treat these lesions. OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical outcomes of PDL in small IH lesions. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty-three cases with 58 small IHs which did not meet the criteria for high-risk lesions in the guideline and were

Infantile Hemangiomas Cleared by Combined Therapy With Pulsed Dye Laser and Propranolol.

BACKGROUND: Oral propranolol is the first-line therapy for infantile hemangioma. Combining it with pulse dye laser (PDL) (595nm-long PDL) could reduce treatment duration and sequelae incidence and severity. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of PDL-propranolol treatment on duration to cure and sequelae. METHODS: All consecutive patients with infantile hemangioma who were cured by PDL-propranolol treatment were identified. RESULTS: In the 27 cases, average age at treatment start was 4.3 ± 3.8 months, mean tumor diameter was 11.1 ± 14.0 cm2, and tumor-type was most common (72.4% of lesions).

The rapid effect of pulsed dye laser on demodex density of facial skin.

BACKGROUND: Recently, treatment with acaricides, which is aimed at reducing excessive proliferation of demodex mites, has gained popularity due to its providing a significant improvement in the symptoms of diseases, such as rosacea, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and perioral dermatitis. The effect of IPL on demodex mites was reported in skin biopsy specimens in three patients; however, to the best of our knowledge, no study exists to date, which evaluates the effect of pulsed dye laser (PDL) on demodex density (Dd) in larger patient group. We aim here in to observe the Dd before and after PDL therap

Linear scarring following treatment with a 595-nm pulsed dye laser.

Pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatment is well established and has been reported to be safe and effective in the management of superficial hemangiomas, port-wine stains, and other vascular lesions. Although hyperpigmentation is quite common, other side effects such as hypopigmentation, ulceration, hemorrhaging, atrophic scarring, and hypertrophic scarring are rare. We report the case of a 42-year-old woman who developed atrophic scarring of the nasal alae following cosmetic PDL treatment. Patients receiving PDL treatment should be warned about the risk for the development of scarring.
