Silicone oil used for endotamponade of retinal detachment may migrate into the subarachnoid space of the brain, including the cerebral ventricles, presumably by extension through silicone oil-filled spaces in the optic nerve. Silicone oil has characteristic appearances on CT scans and MRI, which can be utilized to distinguish it from more ominous entities. We describe a case of intraventricular silicone in a patient who presented with seizures.

Metastases of lateral ventricle (LV) are attached to choroidal plexus. Primary source is cancer of kidney. Two thirds of patients are male. Oligodendrogliomas occur in young females. This 65-year-old man presented with a very rare malignant meningioma in the trigonum of the right lateral ventricle. Neurological examination showed bilateral papilledema. The authors present the case of a 58-year-old woman. At presentation the patient complained of vertigo and noise in the ears with six months history, and from headache, accompanied by nausea and vomiting from three months. Three recent cases of intra-ventricular meningiomas are reported. The incidence of this tumor type is very low, since they account for only 0.2% of all intra-cranial neoplasms and 2% of all intra-cranial meningiomas in the adult. Computed tomographic (CT) and angiographic findings in four cases of oligodendroglioma of the lateral ventricle are reported. CT showed a midline nodular intraventricular mass containing punctate calcifications and cysts. The tumors were slightly to markedly enhanced after the infusion of contrast media. Angiography showed slightly increased vascularity in the mass, and displacement of subependymal veins near the tumor. Oligodendrogliomas of the lateral ventricle are rare but should be included in the differential diagnosis of intraventricular tumors near the foramen of Monro.

Ten patients with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) predominantly involving the lateral ventricle were operated upon. All the AVM's were not large, less than 2 cm in diameter. Four AVM's were located in the head of the caudate nucleus; 3 were resected through frontal transcortical (transventricular) approach and 1 was excised through anterior transcallosal approach. In routine imaging of normal early second trimester pregnancies, one will not infrequently encounter potentially confusing cases which may raise the question of fetal hydrocephalus. In a retrospective analysis of 100 cases, this appearance occurred in 10. The anatomic origins of this potential error are discussed, and an imaging technique is described which can be used to exclude fetal hydrocephalus in confusing cases. Close apposition of the normally large choroid plexus with the medial and lateral walls of the ventricular body and atrium indicates normalcy.
