Reflectance Confocal Microscopy as a Diagnostic Aid in Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Mango Sap.

The mango tree (Mangifera indica) produces nutrient-dense fruit that is consumed across the world. Interestingly, despite widespread consumption of its fruit and its categorization in the Anacardiaceae family, allergic reactions to the mango tree and its components are comparatively rare, sometimes manifesting as allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Evaluation of ACD most commonly includes a thorough clinical assessment with diagnostic support from patch testing and histopathologic review following skin biopsy. In recent years, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) has shown promising potential

Biochemical changes in plant leaves as a biomarker of pollution due to anthropogenic activity.

The air pollution due to anthropogenic activities seriously affected human life, vegetation, and heritage as well. The vegetation cover in and around the city mitigates the air pollution by acting as a sink for pollution. An attempt was made to evaluate biochemical changes occurred in four selected plant species, namely Azadirachta indica, Mangifera indica, Delonix regia, and Cassia fistula of residential, commercial, and industrial areas of Nagpur city in India. It was observed that the correlated values of air pollutants and plant leaves characteristics alter foliar biochemical features (i.e

Molecular docking studies and anti-snake venom metalloproteinase activity of Thai mango seed kernel extract.

Snakebite envenomations cause severe local tissue necrosis and the venom metalloproteinases are thought to be the key toxins involved. In this study, the ethanolic extract from seed kernels of Thai mango (Mangifera indica L. cv. 'Fahlun') (Anacardiaceae) and its major phenolic principle (pentagalloylglucopyranose) exhibited potent and dose-dependent inhibitory effects on the caseinolytic and fibrinogenolytic activities of Malayan pit viper and Thai cobra venoms in in vitro tests. molecular docking studies revealed that the binding orientations of the phenolic principles were in the binding poc

Novel low-abundance allergens from mango via combinatorial peptide libraries treatment: A proteomics study.

Mango allergy is a rare condition, which may cause severe hypersensitivity reactions, such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, asthma and contact dermatitis. By exploiting the combinatorial peptide ligand library (CPLL) technology, mango proteomes have been extracted and the presence of traces of allergens assessed via Western blot analysis two-dimensional maps. Upon reactive spot elution and mass spectrometry analyses, four major mango allergens could be identified for the first time and shown to be in common with three of the five known banana species. These allergens include: Mus a 1, Mus a 2 and M

Developmental biology and substrate preference of the quarantine pest, mango pulp weevil Sternochetus frigidus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) under laboratory conditions.

The mango pulp weevil, Sternochetus frigidus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a major monophagous and quarantine pest of mango (Mangifera indica) in tropical Asia, causing severe yield and quality losses due to its concealed feeding and development within fruit tissues. A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the developmental biology, morphometrics and substrate preference of S. frigidus using seven mango substrates: young flush, old flush, green fruit (whole and sliced), ripened fruit (whole and sliced) and stem. Experimental rearing recorded all post-ovipositional stages except the e

Innovative cellulose-based porous matrix loaded with carvacrol microemulsion for sustainable mango preservation.

This study innovatively utilized cellulose-rich Sphagnum palustre L. (SPL) as a porous material for loading carvacrol microemulsion, thereby developing a novel material for mango preservation. Initially, genetic relationship analysis combined with morphological characterization identified Penicillium griseofulvum as a fungal pathogen responsible for mango decay. Based on this finding, carvacrol-a compound with strong antimicrobial properties-was selected as the active agent to formulate a stable oil-in-water (O/W) microemulsion. Through the self-adsorption capacity of the SPL-based porous matr

Streptomyces sp. G21 mitigates postharvest mango anthracnose by tuning ROS and phenylpropanoid metabolism.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.), a tropical fruit of significant economic importance, is highly susceptible to postharvest infections by pathogenic microorganisms, leading to substantial quality deterioration. This study explored the biocontrol efficacy of Streptomyces sp. G21, previously identified as an antagonist against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, the causal agent of mango anthracnose. Results showed that treatment with G21 significantly enhanced disease resistance in mango fruits, as evidenced by a reduced disease index. Moreover, G21 application delayed the decline in key storage quality

The genome evolution and domestication of tropical fruit mango.

BACKGROUND: Mango is one of the world's most important tropical fruits. It belongs to the family Anacardiaceae, which includes several other economically important species, notably cashew, sumac and pistachio from other genera. Many species in this family produce family-specific urushiols and related phenols, which can induce contact dermatitis. RESULTS: We generate a chromosome-scale genome assembly of mango, providing a reference genome for the Anacardiaceae family. Our results indicate the occurrence of a recent whole-genome duplication (WGD) event in mango. Duplicated genes preferentially

Regulation of lipid and glucose homeostasis by mango tree leaf extract is mediated by AMPK and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways.

Ethanolic extract of Mangifera indica (mango) dose-dependently decreased serum glucose and triglyceride in KK-A(y) mice. Our in vitro and in vivo investigations revealed that the effect of mango leave extract (ME) on glucose and lipid homeostasis is mediated, at least in part, through the PI3K/AKT and AMPK signaling pathway. ME up-regulated the expression of PI3K, AKT and GYS genes by 2.0-fold, 3.2-fold, and 2.7-fold, respectively, leading to a decrease in glucose level. On the other hand, ME up-regulated AMPK and altered lipid metabolism. ME also down-regulated ACC (2.8-fold), HSL (1.6-fold),

Roles of Eleven Key Enzymes in Sweet Value and Soluble Sugar Component Content During Mango Development.

Mango fruits are popular for their flavor. Sugar, a key component of fruit nutrition and flavor, determines fruit quality via its composition and content. While many studies explore molecular regulatory pathways of sugar metabolism in various fruits, large-scale physiological screening of related enzymes via advanced mathematical methods is largely neglected, and the physiological mechanism of sugar accumulation in mango remains unclear. This study analyzed glucose, fructose, sucrose and starch contents, and the activities of 11 sugar metabolism-related enzymes (adenosine diphosphate glucose p

Enhanced antifungal properties of poly(butylene succinate) film with lignin nanoparticles and trans-cinnamaldehyde for mango packaging.

Sustainable poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) films incorporating lignin nanoparticles (LN) and trans-cinnamaldehyde (CN) have been developed to preserve mango freshness and provide food safety. PBS/LN, PBS/CN, and PBS/LN/CN composite films were produced by blown film melt extrusion. This study investigated the effect of CN-LN on the CN remaining content, thermal, mechanical, and barrier properties, diffusion coefficient, and antifungal activity of PBS films both in vitro and in vivo. Results showed that LN in the PBS/LN/CN composite film contained more CN than in the PBS/CN film. The compatibili

Visual colorimetric label for real-time monitoring of SO2 concentration change in grape and mango during storage.

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is widely utilized as a preservative in food transportation and storage, but excessive consumption poses health risks. This study presents a novel and efficient method for the real-time detection of SO2 using a sensor named TK, synthesized from triphenylamine and 2-cyanomethyl-1-methyl-quinolinium. The core mechanism involves the Michael addition reaction of the CC bond in TK with SO2, which disrupts the intramolecular charge transfer process, resulting in a significant color change and a blue shift in fluorescence emission. Methodologically, the sensor's response was quan
