Novel Histologic Finding: Adipose Tissue Is Prevalent Within Penile Tunica Albuginea and Corpora Cavernosa: An Anatomic Study of 63 Specimens and Considerations for Cancer Invasion.

Adipose tissue, along with arteries, veins, and peripheral nerves, is a normal constituent of mesenchymal tissues encasing the corpora cavernosa at the level of the penile shaft, variously designated as penile fascia or Bucks fascia. To our knowledge, the presence of fat has not been previously reported within the corpora cavernosa. One or 2 transversal histologic sections at the level of the surgical margin at the shaft of 63 consecutive partial penectomy specimens for squamous cell carcinoma were evaluated. From outer to inner tissues, 3 anatomic levels were identified: (1) outer fascia comp

Metastasis of Rectal Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma to Typical Lipoma: A Rare Presentation of the Tumor-to-Tumor Metastasis Phenomenon.

Rectal signet ring cell carcinoma represents a rare subtype of colorectal adenocarcinoma known for its aggressive biological nature and poor prognosis. Although the co-occurrence of colorectal carcinoma with other tumors has been reported, the uncommon phenomenon of tumor-to-tumor metastasis, first described in 1930, remains rare. The most frequent donor neoplasms are lung or breast carcinomas, whereas cerebral meningiomas have been reported to be the most frequent recipient neoplasms. Here we report a case of a typical lipomatous tumor harboring metastatic signet ring cell rectal carcinoma. I

Imaging hepatic angiomyolipomas: key features and avoiding errors.

Hepatic angiomyolipomas (HAMLs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms, which have highly variable imaging appearances, often leading to misdiagnosis. They belong to the family of perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms (PEComas). HAMLs have a wide spectrum of imaging appearances due to variable amounts of smooth muscle cells, adipose tissue, and blood vessels in their makeup. Although typically sporadic, they are also associated with tuberous sclerosis. Sporadic lesions tend to be solitary whilst patients with tuberous sclerosis often have multiple HAMLs invariably accompanied by renal AMLs. Having b

Increased Risk of Breast Fibroadenomas Among Obese and Postmenopausal Women With Uterine Fibroids.

Introduction Uterine fibroids and breast fibroadenomas are common female benign neoplasms that are similarly derived from a single clonal origin and are modulated by estradiol concentration in blood. However, the association between these neoplasms has not yet been explored. Hence, this study aims to investigate the relationship between uterine fibroids and breast fibroadenomas.  Methods A total of 199 women (cases: 72 women with uterine fibroids, control: 127 women without uterine fibroids) were included in this study. Ultrasound was used to screen for uterine fibroids, and both ultrasound an

Prediction of lipomatous soft tissue malignancy on MRI: comparison between machine learning applied to radiomics and deep learning.

OBJECTIVES: Malignancy of lipomatous soft-tissue tumours diagnosis is suspected on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and requires a biopsy. The aim of this study is to compare the performances of MRI radiomic machine learning (ML) analysis with deep learning (DL) to predict malignancy in patients with lipomas oratypical lipomatous tumours. METHODS: Cohort include 145 patients affected by lipomatous soft tissue tumours with histology and fat-suppressed gadolinium contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MRI pulse sequence. Images were collected between 2010 and 2019 over 78 centres with non-uniform protoc

Update of pediatric soft tissue tumors with review of conventional MRI appearance-part 1: tumor-like lesions, adipocytic tumors, fibroblastic and myofibroblastic tumors, and perivascular tumors.

There are numerous soft tissue tumors and tumor-like conditions in the pediatric population. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most useful modality for imaging these lesions. Although certain soft tissue lesions exhibit magnetic resonance features characteristic of a specific diagnosis, most lesions are indeterminate, and a biopsy is necessary for diagnosis. We provide a detailed update of soft tissue tumors and tumor-like conditions that occur in the pediatric population, emphasizing each lesion's conventional magnetic resonance imaging appearance, using the recently released 5th edition of t

[Myolipoma arising from the renal capsule: a case report].

A 53-year-old female visited us with an asymptomatic renal mass, which was incidentally found on abdominal ultrasonography (US). US showed a heterogeneous renal mass measuring 5 cm in diameter. Computed tomorraphy and magnetic resonance imaging showed that the tumor was mixed with muscle and fat tissue, faintly enhanced, and located at the lower portion of the left kidney. Although renal angiomyolipoma (AML) was suspected from these findings, we could not rule out a malignant tumor. Therefore, she underwent a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. Histopathological examination revealed the tumor co

Myelolipoma of renal sinus in a patient with end-stage renal disease: A rare differential diagnosis in renal neoplasms.

Myelolipoma is an uncommon benign neoplasm composed of mature adipose tissue and hematopoietic elements. Myelolipoma occurs most frequently in the adrenal gland but occasionally can be seen in extra-adrenal locations such as lung, liver, retroperitoneum, mediastinum, and kidney. We report a case of extra-adrenal myelolipoma presented as a localized asymptomatic mass in the renal sinus of left native kidney of a 60-year-old woman. The patient was being investigated for end-stage renal disease status post renal transplant. Histologic examination of the lesion showed classic features for myelolip

Perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat - histopathological and molecular characterization of 3 cases after renal transplantation.

BACKGROUND: Perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat (PMPF) is a rare benign pseudo-neoplastic proliferation of the perinephric and renal sinus adipose tissue. Its pathogenesis is thought to be a reactive process typically associated with neoplastic and non-neoplastic end-stage kidney disease. The distinctive histopathological feature of PMPF is a myxoid process comprising bland, spindled stromal cells interspersed with mature adipose tissue. Macroscopically, it is characterized by tumorous lipomatous remodeling of the kidney, which may raise concerns of malignancy on imaging. To date, only seven

[Fat-forming solitary fibrous tumor with NAB2/ STAT6 gene fusion. Case report of genial location and literature review].

The lipomatous variety solitary fibrous tumor is a soft tissue neoplasm composed of mature adipose tissue and hemangiopericytoma areas. A 53-year-old man consulted for facial asymmetry and maxillofacial magnetic resonance imaging showed a cystic lesion, 3 x 2 cm in size, in front of the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus. Histologically, there were dense spindle cells expressing CD34, CD99, Bcl-2, and STAT6, myxoid zones, hemangiopericytomatous blood vessels, and S100 positive adipocytes. NAB2/STAT6 gene fusion was revealed by RT-PCR. The main differential diagnosis was raised with the spind

Understanding a mass in the paraspinal region: an anatomical approach.

The paraspinal region encompasses all tissues around the spine. The regional anatomy is complex and includes the paraspinal muscles, spinal nerves, sympathetic chains, Batson's venous plexus and a rich arterial network. A wide variety of pathologies can occur in the paraspinal region, originating either from paraspinal soft tissues or the vertebral column. The most common paraspinal benign neoplasms include lipomas, fibroblastic tumours and benign peripheral nerve sheath tumours. Tumour-like masses such as haematomas, extramedullary haematopoiesis or abscesses should be considered in patients

Cutaneous Angiomyolipoma of the Forearm.

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is defined as a benign tumour that is commonly identified in the kidneys, and most cases are associated with tuberous sclerosis. Although extrarenal AML cases have been reported, the association with the liver remains the most prevalent. We hereby report a rare case of cutaneous AML on the forearm of a 62-year-old gentleman, enduring for 10 years. Histopathology of AML revealed a combination of mature adipose tissue, thick-walled blood vessels, and smooth muscle cells, which distinguishes AML from other tissue tumours, such as lipoma, angiolipoma, hemangioma, and other mix

Giant Cell Sarcomas in Domestic Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus).

Multinucleated giant cells (MGCs) are a prominent histological feature of various mesenchymal neoplasms and are often considered a criterion of malignancy. Mesenchymal neoplasms with MGCs for which the cell lineage is unclear generally are referred to as giant cell sarcomas. Here we characterize the gross, histologic, and immunohistochemical features of 90 giant cell sarcomas in domestic pet rabbits. Based on the anatomic location and histologic and immunohistochemical findings, 18 cases were classified as histiocytic sarcomas (HS) and 72 cases as anaplastic sarcomas (AS). At postmortem examin

Beyond the "3 Ps": A critical appraisal of the non-endocrine manifestations of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1), an autosomal-dominantly inherited tumor syndrome, is classically defined by tumors arising from the "3 Ps": Parathyroids, Pituitary, and the endocrine Pancreas. From its earliest descriptions, MEN1 has been associated with other endocrine and non-endocrine neoplastic manifestations. High quality evidence supports a direct association between pathogenic MEN1 variants and neoplasms of the skin (angiofibromas and collagenomas), adipose tissue (lipomas and hibernomas), and smooth muscle (leiomyomas). Although CNS tumors, melanoma, and, most recently, bre
