Angiosarcoma (AS) is a rare non-epithelial malignant neoplasm arising from neoplastic vascular degeneration of endothelial cells. It usually occurs in soft tissue and skin. The incidence, according to American authors, is 1% of all soft tissue sarcomas. About 50% of AS is localized in head and neck region (scalp and face skin) and represents less than 1% of all malignancies of this district; the primitive intra- oral localization is rare, even rarer intraosseous development of AS in jaw bones. The Authors report a case of a mandibular intraosseus angiosarcoma with different peculiarities: the

Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma is a rare pediatric neoplasm that presents most commonly in the soft tissues. We report the case of a 1-month-old infant who presented with stridor and was found to have a diffusely infiltrating tumor in the thymus that extended into the pericardium and up the carotid sheaths. Histologic examination revealed a vascular tumor infiltrating among the lobules of the lymphocyte-depleted thymus. The lesion had features of both a capillary hemangioma and Kaposi sarcoma. Immunoperoxidase studies on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue demonstrated the neoplastic end

31 cases of primary hyperplasia and neoplasms of the parathyroid gland are reported. Among them, 23 cases were parathyroid adenoma, 6 cases parathyroid hyperplasia, one case adenoma associated with hyperplasia, and one case of parathyroid adenocarcinoma. Follow-up study demonstrated that prognosis in the adenoma group is better than that in the hyperplasia group, and one carcinoma patient died from metastasis. Regarding differential diagnosis, adenoma is usually single, with frequent presence of oppressed parathyroid tissue next to the tumor capsule; and cell atypical hyperplasia is often seen

Retiform hemangioendothelioma (RHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm of intermediate malignancy, with a high frequency of local recurrence and negligible metastasizing potential. We describe a 45-year-old female who presented with a firm subcutaneous nodule in the lower-outer quadrant of the right breast. Diagnosis of RHE was confirmed based on the characteristic retiform pattern of the branching neoplastic vascular channels, as well as positivity for CD31 and negativity for D2-40 markers. The patient was successfully treated with wide local excision of the tumor with clear surgical margins. The re

The pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma (PMH) is a low-grade malignant vascular neoplasm of different tissue planes including skin and soft tissue. Primary tumors in the skeletal muscle and bone have also been diagnosed. The PMH was introduced into the WHO classification of tumors of soft tissue and bone in 2013. This is the first description of oral involvement. A 21-year-old female presented with a 2-month old swelling of her gingiva. The swelling appeared red in color and was soft in consistency. A clinical diagnosis of a pyogenic granuloma was made and an incisional biopsy was submitted fo

Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a rare clinicopathologic entity causing severe pulmonary hypertension, right-side heart failure, and sudden death. Its histologic features include widespread tumor emboli of the small arteries and arterioles of the lung, associated with thrombus formation and fibrocellular and fibromuscular intimal proliferation. The most frequent causative neoplasm for PTTM is gastric cancer, but lesions in other organs, including the ovary, have been occasionally identified as primary causes. Detailed molecular mechanisms underlying PTTM remain unclear, bu

Introduction Angioleiomyoma is a rare neoplasm that represents ∼ 0.2 % of all head and neck benign tumors and ∼ 2% of total cases of tumors of the sinonasal tract. It was once considered a possible subtype of leiomyoma, but, in the 2020 World Health Organization (WHO) classification of soft tissue tumors, it is accepted as a singular entity. Objective To systematically review the existing literature on angioleiomyoma in the light of the new classification of soft tissue tumors. Data Synthesis The present study was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Rev

Since the initial report of renal hemangiopericytoma in 1955, only 39 cases of this rare vascular neoplasm, involving the renal capsule, parenchyma, or sinus have been described in the world literature. Herein we describe a case of a 15-year-old adolescent boy with this tumor arising from right renal pelvis. A radical right nephrectomy was performed. Histologic and immunologic studies revealed a hemangiopericytoma of renal pelvis soft tissues. The patient did well postoperatively and remains disease-free at the present time.

Chronic inflammation is a response to prolonged exposure to injurious stimuli that harm and destroy tissues and promote lymphocyte infiltration into inflamed sites. Following progressive accumulation of lymphocytes, the histology of inflamed tissue begins to resemble that of peripheral lymphoid organs, which can be referred to as lymphoid neogenesis or formation of tertiary lymphoid tissues. Lymphocyte recruitment to inflamed tissues is also reminiscent of lymphocyte homing to peripheral lymphoid organs. In the latter, under physiological conditions, homing receptors expressed on lymphocytes a

Thyroid tumors can be classified into epithelial, nonepithelial, and nonprimary lesions. Nonepithelial thyroid tumors are rare. They can be of primary origin within the thyroid gland, arise secondary to contiguous growth from adjacent tissues, or represent metastatic disease. The incidence of nonepithelial tumors of the thyroid is only 1% to 2%, most of which are lymphomas; the remainder includes mesenchymal and histiocytic tumors. This review examines the cytohistological features of various nonepithelial and nonlymphoid tumors of the thyroid, including vascular lesions, neural tumors (includ

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, slow-growing mesenchymal neoplasm of the dermis and subcutaneous tissues that has a low-to intermediate-grade malignancy. DFSP commonly involves the trunk and extremities, and very rarely the breast skin, mimicking a primary breast neoplasm with few reported cases in the literature. We report a 35-year old female patient who was referred to the Royal Hospital, Muscat, Oman in 2017, with a two-year history of a slow growing left breast lump. Assessment of the breasts with mammography revealed a lobulated lesion in the left-upper-inner quadrant w

Angiosarcoma is a rare high-grade malignant neoplasm with poor clinical outcome and survival rates, occurring most commonly in the skin and soft tissue. It is composed of neoplastic cells that demonstrate endothelial differentiation. The diagnosis of angiosarcoma can be difficult due to its pathohistologic presentation as a poorly differentiated neoplasm with associated secondary changes. We report a case of angiosarcoma of the adrenal gland with concurrent contralateral renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and renal vein thrombus. The presumptive clinical diagnosis was metastatic renal cell carcinoma t

BACKGROUND: We describe 6 cases of a poorly recognized vascular neoplasm that can simulate angiosarcoma.
DESIGN: Cases of a rare vascular tumor with a proclivity for the genitourinary tract encountered in our consultation material were prospectively collected between the year 1999 and 2008. Follow-up information was obtained when possible.
RESULTS: There were 6 tumors from 4 men (66%) and 2 women, ranging in age from 49 to 75 years (median, 59.5) involving the kidney and renal hilum (4, 66%) and testis (2). Tumors ranged from 1.3 to 1.7 cm (median, 1.6 cm) and were grossly well-marginated wi

INTRODUCTION: Haemangiomas are developmental vascular abnormalities and more than 50% of these lesions occur in the head and neck region, with the tongue, buccal mucosa, lips and palate most commonly involve. They are considered as harmatomas rather than true neoplasms Factors such as patient's age, size and site of lesion and the proximity of lesion to vital structure are paramount in the determination of the therapeutic approach 7 surgical excision, cryotherapy, injection of feeder vessels with sclerosants and embolization of the blood vessels.

Cavernous venous malformations (CVMs) of the paranasal sinuses are rare benign vascular lesions that can mimic aggressive neoplasms. Here, we report a 24-year-old male presenting with progressive nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, and visual impairment. Preoperative CT demonstrated an expansile, soft-tissue mass within the left frontal sinus, characterized by a delicate osseous shell, internal radial bony ridges, and a pedunculated attachment to the anterior sinus wall. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI revealed progressive centripetal enhancement with a characteristic "slow-filling" pattern. The lesi

This review summarizes the clinicopathological features of a number of vascular tumours that have been characterized only in recent years. These include: glomeruloid haemangioma, a multifocal vascular lesion associated with POEMS syndrome: Kaposi-like infantile haemangioendothelioma, a borderline malignant tumour occurring in the retroperitoneum of infants, mimicking Kaposi's sarcoma histologically; giant cell angioblastoma, characterized by proliferated vessels with a granuloma-like appearance; benign lymphangioendothelioma (progressive lymphangioma), slowly-growing macule or plaque over the

The term haemangioendothelioma has been used in the past for a number of vascular lesions, which vary not only by their morphological features, but more importantly, also by their biological behavior. In the recent WHO-classification of mesenchymal tumours haemangioendotheliomas have been defined as vascular tumours of "intermediate" or "borderline" malignancy, and spindle cell haemangioendothelioma (SHE), epithelioid haemangioendothelioma (EHE), and rare malignant endovascular papillary angioendothelioma (Dabska's tumour) were included in this category. To this list might be added the more re

Sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1P(1)) has been shown to play an important role in the migration, proliferation, and survival of endothelial cells. S1P(1) of vascular and lymphatic endothelial cells can be detected by immunostaining of paraffin-embedded sections using a rabbit anti-S1P(1) antibody. In this study, to distinguish vascular tumors from histologic mimics using immunohistochemical means, we evaluated the expression of S1P(1) in a range of vascular tumors. S1P(1) expression was observed in eight of eight hemangiomas, four of four lymphangiomas, four of four epithelioid hemangioe

Mesenchymal tumors of the female genital tract include various benign and malignant neoplasms. Mesenchymal tumors may arise from the stroma or associated elements of the organ of origin, such as connective tissue, vascular or neural structures, or others. Malignant mesenchymal tumors of the female genital tract represent a rare group of gynecologic cancers. They are generally aggressive tumors, with a propensity for local and distant recurrence. The mainstay of treatment usually involves surgical excision of the primary tumor. Malignant mesenchymal tumors of the female genital tract are genera
