Ultrasound (US) is an attractive diagnostic approach to identify both common and uncommon nipple pathologies, such as duct ectasia, nipple abscess, nipple leiomyoma, nipple adenoma, fibroepithelial polyp, ductal carcinoma in situ (restricted to nipple), invasive carcinoma, and Paget's disease. US is the reliable first-line imaging technique to assess nipple pathologies. It is useful to identify and characterize nipple lesions. Additionally, we have presented the mammography and MRI outcomes correlated with histopathologic features for the relevant cases.

The nipple is an unusual site of cutaneous melanoma with only few cases described in literature. We herein report an additional case of malignant melanoma arising on the nipple of a 47-year old woman. The nodular, ulcerated lesion was removed surgically and the diagnosis was that of a vertical growth phase melanoma. The melanocytic origin of the tumour was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. The case pursued a poor clinical outcome with distant metastases and death of the patient.

The authors present their technique for correction of invaginated nipple, a procedure used for the past 20 years. Most often, this condition is a consequence of a subareolar muscle diastasis associated with short fibrous septa as well as short and fibrotic ducts. The correction technique specifically divides the fibrous tracts and corrects the diastasis of the subareolar muscle. The procedure was performed for healthy patients as well as for patients with mastitis sequel treatment and surgical reduction or augmentation mammaplasty.

Though milky nipple discharge is frequently seen in neonates, blood stained discharge from the nipple is an exceptionally rare phenomenon. We noted a case of a three-month-old baby girl who presented with bilateral blood stained nipple discharge without signs of inflammation; engorgement or hypertrophy and which subsided without any intervention. This case is reported along with literature review about managing this rare condition.

Evaluation and management of patients with nipple discharge (ND) aims to identify carcinoma when present, and in benign cases, stop the discharge when bothersome. We reviewed our recent experience with ND to develop a simple and effective algorithm to manage these patients. Records of all patients with ND evaluated from December 1996 through June 1999 were reviewed. Breast and nipple skin is commonly affected by various inflammatory and neoplastic processes. Despite this fact, many physicians are unaware of the spectrum of diseases that can involve this area. Because breast and nipple skin represents a cosmetically, sexually, and functionally important entity to most patients, awareness of these disease entities is invaluable. This article reviews the normal anatomy of the breast, cutaneous manifestations of neoplastic processes that can present in these areas, and common inflammatory diseases of the breast and nipple skin.

The cytologic appearances of two examples of adenoma of the nipple are described. The cellular samples from both lesions contained large numbers of epithelial cells, which were present both singly and in numerous clusters. It is probably impossible to reproduce with available means a nipple with normal texture, sensation, and erectile function. The practical prerequisites are symmetry in diameter and projection. A new method is presented that fulfills those requirements and allows more latitude in varying and predicting those parameters. It utilizes the available local skin and avoids invasion of the normal contralateral breast or other nipple donor sites.

Abnormal nipple discharge is rare, constituting only 3-5% of mammary consultation. In the present paper 267 patients with primary nipple discharge operated on at Institut Gustave-Roussay (IGR) in Villejuif, France, between January 1, 1960 and December, 1974 were evaluated. In all cases, the nipple discharge was symptomatic, spontaneous, and represented the primary reason for the patient's consultation. Hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola has been classically divided into three categories: a part of an epidermal nevus, a type associated with ichthyosis, and a nevoid form seen in young women. A case of hyperkeratosis of the nipples in a patient with adenocarcinoma of the prostate treated with diethylstilbestrol is described herein. A possible correlation between estrogens and an acquired form of this rare skin disorder is suggested.
