An incidence and morphology of the CNS congenital malformations in newborn babies and infants were analysed in the consecutive autopsies carried out in 1986-1990, i.e. following Tscharnobyl disaster. The obtained results were compared to those seen in the two earlier periods (1976-1980 and 1981-1986). In 1986-1990, a percentage of autopsies showing congenital CNS malformations increased approximately by two-fold (15%). Neurological, psychiatric, somatic and immune status were studied in 256 patients subjected to ionizing radiation at the dose of 10-45 cGy during liquidation of aftermath of the Chernobyl accident. A medical screening exercise test is presented which accurately predicts relative heat tolerance during work in very hot environments. The test consisted of 15-20 min of exercise at a standard absolute intensity of about 600 kcal/hr (140W) with the subject wearing a vapor-barrier suit. Five minutes after the subject exercised, recovery heart rate was measured.
