BACKGROUND: Certain types of panniculitis, erythema induratum of Bazin and erythema nodosum, have been well documented as tuberculids. Many histopathologic diagnoses of panniculitis have been reported in tuberculosis patients. A case of nodular panniculitis with liquefaction in a 58-year-old woman patient is reported. It seems that Pfeiffer-Weber-Christian disease and nodular panniculitis with liquefaction are varying expressions of the same disease entity. The relationship to cases reported in the literature is discussed.

A 44-year-old woman presented to our hospital with abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a mass-like change in the lesser omentum between the liver and stomach. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a submucosal tumor-like change, and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) revealed that the mass was located outside of the stomach wall. Suppurative panniculitis usually occurs among immunocompromised patients and can be caused by opportunistic pathogens or by secondary infectious lesions in the context of septicemia. Herein we report the case of an 82-year-old woman with multiple red nodules on the leg caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, not related to a blood disseminated infection. The present case represents an unusual presentation of indolent suppurative panniculitis caused by P. aeruginosa.

Pseudosclerodermatous panniculitis is an unusual variant of panniculitis that results as a complication of megavoltage radiotherapy. A 25-year-old Caucasian woman developed two areas of tender panniculitis on her left thigh. While one lesion ulcerated, the other showed no overlying cutaneous changes.
