Mercaptomethylimidazole (MMI), a potent antithyroid drug of the thionamide group, induces both acid and pepsinogen secretion independently in control and pylorus ligated mice. The effect is dose dependent and the drug is more effective than histamine, carbachol or isoproterenol when administered by an intraperitoneal route. Serum group I pepsinogen (PG I) levels were measured by radioimmunoassay in patients with peptic ulcer and normal subjects. The mean (+/-S.E.) serum PG I level in 318 normal subjects was 79 +/- 3 ng/ml. The level in males, 87 +/- 2 ng/ml (n = 246), was significantly higher than in females, 72 +/- 4 ng/ml (n = 72). The serum PG I levels in the patients with gastric ulcer and in those with duodenal ulcer were 91 +/- 7 ng/ml (n = 31) and 117 +/- 10 ng/ml (n = 31), respectively. Both values were significantly higher than the value in the subjects with endoscopically normal mucosa (63 +/- 5 ng/ml).

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated longitudinal changes in the serum pepsinogen (PG) I/II ratio according to endoscopic gastric mucosal atrophy.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 21,265 participants who underwent endoscopy during health checkups between 2015 and 2023. BACKGROUND/AIMS: GastroPanel tests include gastrin-17 (G-17) levels in addition to pepsinogen (PG) and Helicobacter pylori serology tests. The aim of this study was to identify significant test findings in patients with gastric neoplasms by comparing the findings of GastroPanel tests and conventional serum PG assays.

We aimed to determine the diagnostic value of anti-parietal cell antibodies (anti-PCA), anti-intrinsic factor antibodies (anti-IFA), pepsinogen ratio (PGI/II), and gastrin-17 (G-17) in corpus-restricted atrophic gastritis (CRAG) detected by ELISA (Inova, Biohit).
