The Drash syndrome, the first case in Thailand is reported. The patient had male pseudohermaphrodite, Wilms' tumor of the left kidney and mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis. Metastasis of Wilms' tumor was noted in the liver, omentum, pelvic peritoneum and vertebral body. Chemotherapy (actinomycin D, vincristine and dexamethasone) and local irradiation were given. The patient developed pneumonia, diarrhea and ended up with Steven-Johnson syndrome from Cotrimoxazole hypersensitivity.

Unconventional microscopic means for investigation of Cryptosporidium oocysts in patients' stools were explored in an attempt to obtain a more accurate diagnosis. The results showed that Nomarski interference contrast microscope provided clearer structures of oocysts in wet mount preparations than those under a normal light microscope and readily allowed distinction from yeast cells. Transmission electron microscopic study revealed that oocysts are thick walled and well sporulated. Their "untypical" appearance as seen by the light microscope resulted from sporozoites or the residuum that can b

The corneal endothelial cells of 25 patients with unilateral acute glaucoma were photographed with a clinical specular microscope. Photography was performed as soon as (average 6-12 h) the IOP had been lowered with iv Acetazolamide and/or Mannitol and topical Pilocarpine therapy, and the corneas had become clear. Peripheral iridectomy was performed on the affected eye and prophylactically on the fellow eye in most of these patients. The follow-up endothelial photographs were taken 6-24 months postoperatively. High intraocular pressure lasting 3 days or more lowered the central endothelial cell

BACKGROUND: Early development and eruption of permanent teeth are rarely reported in scientific literature. Early eruption of permanent teeth has been reported to occur due to local factors such as trauma or dental abscesses in primary teeth, and in systemic conditions. Congenital diffuse infiltrating facial lipomatosis (CDIFL) is a rare condition that belongs to a group of lipomatosis tumours. In this disorder, the mature adipocytes invade adjacent soft and hard tissues in the facial region. Accelerated tooth eruption is one of the dental anomalies associated with CDIFL.

The vascular distribution within pulps of human primary teeth has not been as well studied as those within human permanent teeth. Such information is useful to those who diagnose and treat dental conditions in children. The purpose of this study was to determine the architecture of the vascular structures, in contrast to the histological appearances, of noncarious human primary teeth during root completion, root resorption and dental caries attack. Following extraction, primary teeth were perfused with an opaque injection mass and photographed to trace the courses of the arterioles, venules an

After injections of 0.5 microliter of tritiated leucine and/or proline into various parts of the pontine nuclei proper or the pontine tegmental reticular nucleus (N.r.t.) of 34 cats, labeled terminals of pontocerebellar fibers were found in the cerebellar cortex. Fibers from the pontine nuclei and N.r.t. terminate as mossy fibers in the granular layer of the cerebellum, and no evidence is obtained of labeled fibers in the molecular layer. The pontocerebellar projection is, in general, bilateral with a contralateral preponderance, and a complex organization has been shown to exist in the cat. C

A young man with retroperitoneal and mediastinal fibrosis, associated with systemic vasculitis, is reported. Sacroiliitis and the histocompatibility antigen HLA-B27 were also present. The literature regarding vasculitis and HLA-B27 in retroperitoneal fibrosis is reviewed and the implications of this association discussed.

B. canis infection in the dog is characterized as a mild (uncomplicated) or severe (complicated) disease. The clinical, coagulation and haematological, pathological and histopathological findings of the severe disease are described. Thrombocytopenia is reported as occurring in both the mild and severe forms of B. canis infection in the dog.
