Manifestation of pityriasis rosea and pityriasis rosea-like eruptions after Covid-19 vaccine: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: After introducing Covid-19 vaccines, a few side effects were reported, pityriasis rosea being one of them. Therefore, this study will systematically review its manifestation afteradministration. METHODS: Databases were searched, covering a timeline from December 1, 2019 to February 28, 2022. Data were independently extracted and accessed for bias. SPSS statistical software version 25 was used for appropriate inferential statistics. RESULTS: Thirty-one studies were included for data extraction after screening following the eligibility criteria. A total of 111 people were identifie…

Pityriasis Rosea after COVID-19 Infection.

Dear Editor, Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a common, self-limited erythematous papulosquamous dermatosis that mainly affects young adults. It is believed to represent a delayed reaction to viral infections and is usually associated with endogenous systemic reactivation of human herpesvirus (HHV) 6 and / or 7 (1). A 46-year-old man presented to our Department with a two-week history of skin rash associated with mild pruritus. He described the appearance of an erythematous centrally scaled lesion at the right part of his abdomen, followed by the spreading of red oval mildly scaling lesions on the tru…

Atypical Pityriasis Rosea with Unilateral Presentation.

Pityriasis Rosea (PR) is a common skin disease and characterized by generalized scaly eruptions typically on the trunk and proximal extremities. Atypical presentations of PR are common and can be a diagnostic challenge for clinicians. Here we present a case of a 26-year-old female who presented with a sudden onset of several asymptomatic, erythematous and scaly plaques on her trunk. Plaques sized 0.5-1cm in diameter that were distributed unilaterally (right side) on her chest, back and axilla. Atypical cases of PR are fairly common and less readily recognized. Careful history, clinical evaluat…

Narrowband UVB phototherapy in pityriasis rosea.

OBJECTIVE: Pityriasis rosea (PR) is an acute self-limiting disease. Despite vigorous efforts by generations of researchers since nearly 150 years, present treatment modalities for PR are not very gratifying. Ultraviolet radiation has been recommended in PR, although only a few studies validate this proposal. This study was conducted to explore the therapeutic effect of NBUVB on the symptoms, course, and severity of PR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study involved a hundred patients who were randomly divided into two groups, using computer-generated randomization chart. Group A underwent treatme…

Terbinafine induced pityriasis rosea-like eruption.

Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal agent which is widely used for the treatment of fungal infections. Cutaneous side effects have been reported in 2% of the patients on terbinafine therapy with many morphological patterns. We report a case of terbinafine induced pityriasis rosea, a very rare side effect of terbinafine. This report emphasizes the importance of counseling the patient to report immediately in the event of a cutaneous eruption.

Pityriasis rosea following influenza (H1N1) vaccination.

Pityriasis rosea is a distinct papulosquamous skin eruption that has been attributed to viral reactivation, certain drug exposures or rarely, vaccination. Herein, we reported a clinicopathlogically typical case of pityriasis rosea that developed after the H1N1 vaccination. With a global H1N1 vaccination program against the pandemic H1N1 influenza, patients should be apprised of the possibility of such rare but benign skin reaction to avoid unnecessary fear. Furthermore, a brief review of the current reported skin adverse events related to the novel H1N1 vaccination in Taiwan is presented here.

Pityriasis rosea with palmoplantar plaque lesions.

Pityriasis rosea is a skin disease characterized by sharply defined pruritic red patches covered by fine scales. It affects mostly adolescent and young adults. Typical lesions usually affect the trunk in a Christmas-tree pattern. The eruption usually resolves after 6 weeks but symptomatic treatment may be needed. Two patients are reported with classic presentation of pityriasis rosea except for the unusual associated palmoplantar lesions; both patients had negative RPR (with dilutions) and MHA-TP. They responded to 2-week courses of either oral erythromycin or Clarithromycin with complete reso…
