Plastic bronchitis is an uncommon and probably underrecognized disorder, diagnosed by the expectoration or bronchoscopic removal of firm, cohesive, branching casts. It should not be confused with purulent mucous plugging of the airway as seen in patients with cystic fibrosis or bronchiectasis. Bronchitis plastica is a rare disorder that can occur at any age. It is characterised by formation of large, branching bronchial casts, which are often expectorated, but may be discovered only by bronchoscopy. In the current review, we summarize the evidence of preserved plasticity in the adult visual system during visual perceptual learning as well as both monocular and binocular visual deprivation. Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production from plastic-derived substrates offers a promising route to mitigate plastic pollution while reducing dependence on conventional PHA feedstocks. Plastic waste represents an abundant carbon source for microbial fermentation, but efficient conversion remains limited by incomplete deconstruction, inhibitory intermediates, low carbon recovery, and challenges in process integration. Plastic-derived streams contain diverse compounds, including fatty acids, hydrocarbons, fatty alcohols, aldehydes, esters, and aromatic compounds generated during depolymerization.
