PURPOSE: To report the presence of posterior segment neovascularization in eyes with optic nerve aplasia.
METHODS: Three eyes in two patients with clinical optic nerve aplasia were studied.
RESULTS: Examination disclosed posterior segment neovascularization in one eye and progressive posterior segment neovascularization in two eyes.
CONCLUSIONS: Posterior segment neovascularization may occur in association with optic nerve aplasia. Retinal ischemia or retinochoroidal anatomic disorganization, or both, may provide the stimulus for neovascularization in such eyes.

A rare tumour in a 5-year-old boy is presented and discussed. In time and location the story had two parts (Fig. 1): 1) a conjunctival granuloma at the nasal limbus of the right eye was surgically removed. 2) a few months later a huge lesion presented in the posterior segment of the same eye. Was it an ocular tumour with extension to the orbit or an orbital process with impression or invasion of the eye? Repeated surgical biopsies have indicated nodular scleritis of the posterior eye segment as the definitive diagnosis.

Thirty-five dogs with ocular lesions associated with coccidioidomycosis were examined. Serologic and/or histologic evaluation confirmed the diagnoses of coccidioidomycosis. The disease most frequently associated with signs referable to the anterior segment of the eye, such as iritis and granulomatous uveitis.
