In order to evaluate prolactin secretion in females with myotonic dystrophy (MD) prolactin responses to TRH, metoclopramide and bromocriptine were studied in 13 women with myotonic dystrophy (10 normoprolactinaemic and 3 hyperprolactinaemic) and 8 healthy women. A study has been carried out on 116 mammary neoplasias in which the prolactin receptors together with other clinical and hormonal parameters have been determined. A 46.3% frequency of PRLR+ has been obtained as well as a statistically significant correlation between these and blood estradiol (p less than 0.05). PRLR- have greater survival and PRLR may act as a growth factor.

We report a case of hyperprolactinemia and long-standing gynecomastia associated with a hypernephroma. After radical nephrectomy serum prolactin returned to normal and remained so for 4 years without evidence of tumor recurrence. Potential explanations for the observed concurrent findings and the literature are discussed.

The sellar and tomo-encephalographic changes in pituitary prolactin secreting adenomas are described on the base of 75 cases detected within a period of 2 years. In the diagnosis of smaller adenomas in which the sellar findings may be questionable, the value of fractionated encephalography is emphasized, and especially of frontal tomograms, in order to demonstrate a lateral bulging of the sellar diaphragm and a shift of the pituitary stalk to the opposite side.
