Usability and acceptance evaluation of ACESO: a Web-based breast cancer survivorship tool.

PURPOSE: The specific objective of this research is to design and develop a personalized Web application to support breast cancer survivors after treatment, as they deal with post-treatment challenges, such as comorbidities and side effects of treatment. METHODOLOGY: A mixed-methods approach, utilizing a combination of think-aloud analysis, personal interviews, and surveys, was adopted for user acceptance and usability testing among a group of breast cancer survivors. User feedback was gathered on their perceived value of the application, and any user-interface issues that may hinder the over

Pregnancy subsequent to stillbirth: Medical and psychosocial aspects of care.

Pregnancy after stillbirth presents unique challenges for families and healthcare providers. Medical surveillance and interventions must be optimized to improve outcomes and provide individualized support for families. A key component of acceptable care is psychosocial support that is delivered in a timely and sensitive manner by care providers with knowledge about the pervasive impact of stillbirth. With the lack of existing evidence to guide care, there is an urgent need for global leadership and research to address knowledge gaps.

Psychosocial experiences of cancer patients across the COVID-19 era: Lasting implications for oncology.

The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly affected the psychosocial well-being of cancer patients, who were simultaneously confronting a life-threatening illness and a global health crisis. This study explored how individuals with cancer made meaning of their experiences across four temporal phases of the pandemic (2020–2023). Using an interpretivist qualitative design, we conducted an inductive thematic analysis of written reflections from 120 patients who responded to the open-ended prompt, “What do the words ‘cancer’ and ‘pandemic’ mean to you?”. Four overarching themes emerged: Fear of Death, Lonel

Assessment of caregiver needs in parents of children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders in an Indian population.

Parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders have significant unmet needs in various domains, particularly in a Low-Middle Income Country setting such as India. This study assessed parental needs using a Hindi version of the Caregiver Needs Scale (CNS) and found that 65.7% of the respondents expressed a definite need for help in all the items of the scale. The total score on CNS showed a significant negative correlation with the age of the child. Age of parent showed a significant negative correlation with scores for community and support needs.

Supporting veterans' transitions from permanent supportive housing.

OBJECTIVES: Little research has assessed the nature of veterans' departures from permanent supportive housing (PSH), which may be of positive valence (e.g., moving into more independent housing). This study aimed to identify participants appropriate for "graduation" from PSH and how to support their transitions. METHOD: This mixed methods study used qualitative data from PSH program staff, 445 PSH participants' responses to a survey assessing their experiences and administrative records, and qualitative data from a subsample of 10 participants who graduated from the program. Participants were

Exploring Psychosocial Stressors, Exam Performance, and Grit Among Preclinical Medical Students.

PURPOSE: Medical students encounter high levels of stress linked to poor academic performance. Institutional resources, such as faculty mentors and academic advisors play a critical role in enhancing students' performance and well-being. Despite this, there is a dearth of research incorporating academic advising notes to explore the interplay between medical students academic and psychosocial functioning. Guided by Cognitive Appraisal Theory, this study examined the impact of psychosocial stressors on exam performance and coping potential among medical students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Utilizi

The potential of AI for adjunctive supportive care in cancer survivorship: opportunities, challenges, and the PRECISION-AI practical framework.

Among the 18 million cancer survivors in the United States, many report significant unmet physical, psychosocial, and practical needs that existing healthcare systems struggle to address at scale. This conceptual perspective examines how artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platforms can serve as adjuncts to care by addressing unmet needs, supporting symptom management, and delivering psychoeducation and psychosocial support. Drawing on evidence from oncology AI and cancer survivorship, we consider how AI may improve the quality, personalization, and accessibility of care, distinguishing appli

A review of mental health and psychosocial support needs in Central Africa with emphasis on service gaps and opportunities for action.

BACKGROUND: Mental health and psychosocial well-being remain critically underprioritized in Central Africa, a region characterized by persistent conflict, displacement, poverty, and fragile health systems. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) needs across Central Africa, identifies gaps, and informs policy directions. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar was conducted (January 2010-December 2025) using keywords related to mental health, psychosocial support, and Central African countries. A Qualitative Investigation of the Psychosocial Impact of Chronic Low Back Pain in Ghana.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a global health concern associated with multidimensional/biopsychosocial levels of affectation in developed countries, with holistic management requiring consideration of these factors. There has been minimal research exploring the psychosocial impact of CLBP, and the factors influencing it, in African contexts, with none in Ghana. OBJECTIVES: To explore the psychosocial impact of CLBP among patients with CLBP in Ghana. DESIGN: Qualitative study using individual semistructured face-to-face interviews, underpinned by Straussian grounded theory pri

Adolescent and Young Adult Patients With Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Review as a Case Study in AYA Cancer Care.

Hodgkin lymphoma is one of the most common cancers in adolescents and young adults (AYAs), a population with distinct biological, clinical, and developmental characteristics. Yet care remains fragmented between pediatric and adult systems contributing to variability in treatment exposure and survivorship outcomes. We synthesized current evidence on AYA HL epidemiology, biology, treatment strategies, supportive care needs, long-term toxicity risk, and survivorship. AYAs have access to multiple efficacious treatment options with high cure rates, but long-term survivors face significant medical,

Mental vulnerability, family dysfunction, and digital exposure: Overlooked burdens in populations with noncommunicable chronic diseases.

In this article, we comment on the recent network analysis by Li et al, which explores depression, anxiety, and their associated factors in individuals with noncommunicable chronic diseases (NCDs). We highlight three often-overlooked domains in this population: Mental vulnerability (depression, anxiety, fatigue, nervousness), dysfunction in family functioning (family health, intimate partner violence), and digital exposure (media exposure, problematic internet use), and examine their dynamic interrelations within a psychosocial network framework. The findings reveal a complex system in which e

Markers of Quality Care in PrEP Services: Qualitatively Exploring Dimensions of Support Among Persons Who Engage in High-Risk Alcohol Use.

Healthcare providers employ various strategies to ensure continuous care for patients taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention. However, sustained engagement in care remains challenging, especially among populations at a higher risk of acquiring HIV, such as individuals who engage in high-risk alcohol use or have alcohol dependence. Understanding the provider-level factors-markers of quality care-that positively influence patient engagement remains underexplored. Through a descriptive qualitative approach and thematic analysis of 38 interviews with 14 participants who use PrEP

"I felt as though my life had come to an end": lived experiences of adolescents and young adults with cancer in Nepal.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer face distinctive physical, emotional, and social challenges during a critical developmental period marked by identity formation, pursuit of education, and establishment of social roles. In Nepal, the absence of age-specific oncology services and structured psychosocial support may further compound these experiences; however, qualitative evidence describing the lived experiences of AYAs with cancer in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) remains notably scarce. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the lived experiences

Mental health and psychosocial sequelae of fraud victimization: a systematic review.

Fraud victimization is an increasingly prevalent global problem that extends beyond financial loss, and encompasses substantial mental health and psychosocial harm. Deception, emotional manipulation, and perceived betrayal have been linked to anxiety, depression, shame, trust erosion, and reduced quality of life. Despite these effects, the psychological consequences of fraud victimization remain under-recognized within healthcare and victim support systems. This systematic review synthesizes empirical evidence of mental health and psychosocial outcomes among adults following fraud or scam vict

Psychobiological Factors in Global Health and Public Health.

Psychobiological research is a systems approach that aims to integrate the biological, psychological and social systems that may influence health or pathology, particularly in chronic diseases and physical and/or psychiatric disorders. In this approach, we can expect to be able to deduce a 'biological signature' associated with particular symptom clusters. Similarly, psychosocial factors such as life events, health attitudes and behaviours, social support, psychological well-being, spirituality and personality are to be considered in terms of their influence on individual vulnerability to dise

Engagement of Social Support Systems in Patients Being Considered for and Following Advanced Heart and Lung Surgical Therapies: An ISHLT Expert Consensus Statement.

Social support systems, particularly caregivers, play a critical role in the evaluation, treatment, and recovery of patients undergoing heart or lung transplantation or left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. However, definitions, assessment practices, and expectations for social support vary considerably across programs, and evidence guiding optimal caregiver engagement remains limited. This International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation expert consensus statement summarizes current evidence and provides recommendations for assessing, engaging, and supporting social supp
