The complete genome sequence of four Trueperella pyogenes isolated from cattle surgical site infections in Switzerland was determined using hybrid assembly of Oxford Nanopore and Illumina reads. Genes conferring resistance to tetracyclines [tet(W)], sulfonamides (sul1), chloramphenicol (cmx), streptomycin/spectinomycin (aadA1), and quaternary ammonium compounds (qacEΔ1) were identified on different chromosomal elements.

A series of new quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) containing a terpenoid moiety derived from perillyl alcohol, citronellol, and geraniol was synthesized. Structures of all novel compounds were confirmed by spectral methods and elemental analyses. Fungicidal activity of the obtained compounds against six plant pathogens, against four fungi destroying wood and technical materials as well as herbicidal activity against ten species of temperate climate weeds has been examined. Several salts showed a higher antifungal and herbicidal activity than activity of the reference compounds.

The capillary electrochromatographic separation performance of hydrophobic amines and a related quaternary ammonium compound on continuous beds based on polymers of acrylamide has been studied. The chromatographic bed is polymerized in situ and the character of the polymers with regard to hydrophobicity and charge has been systematically changed by regulating its content of isopropyl and sulfonate ligands, respectively. In this paper, use of tri-n-butylammonium dodecylsulfonate as liquid phase to prepare a capillary column suitable to separate carboxylic acids in a direct injection mode, by the method of dynamic coating with mercury plug, is reported. The results showed that the column has good gas chromatographic properties and high selectivity, especially to strong polar compounds, such as carboxylic acids. The preparation of the capillary column, separation and quantitative analysis of carboxylic acids were investigated. Several examples are given.

We describe the use of phenyl trimethylammonium iodide (PhMe3NI) as an alternative methylating agent for introducing a CH3 group in α-position to a carbonyl group. Compared to conventional methylating agents, quaternary ammonium salts have the advantages of being nonvolatile, noncancerogenic, and easy-to-handle solids. This regioselective method is characterized by ease of operational setup, use of anisole as green solvent, and yields up to 85%.

A series of new quaternary ammonium salts containing a polyconjugated moiety has been synthesized and characterized; their biological activity as potential antimalarial agents was investigated, as well. All compounds were screened against chloroquine resistant W-2 (CQ-R) and chloroquine sensitive, D-10 (CQ-S) strains of Plasmodium falciparum showing IC50 in the submicromolar range and low toxicity against human endothelial cells.

The solutions of nine alpha, omega-bis(3-alkyl(aryl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-on-4-yl) alkanes were titrated with tetrabutylammoniumhydroxide (TBAH) in methanol, using potentiometric methods. The half neutralization potentials values were found for all cases. Potentiometric titration curves of compounds in methanol with 0.03 M TBAH are similar to those of weak acids obtained in aqueous media with strong bases.
