Intracranial Myeloid Sarcoma Mimicking Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

We herein report a case of intracranial myeloid sarcoma mimicking hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage. A 71-year-old man with a history of acute myeloid leukemia was admitted with acute-onset dysarthria. A hematoma-like lesion was found on computed tomography in the left putamen. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and cerebrospinal fluid cytology confirmed the diagnosis of intracranial myeloid sarcoma. The patient showed a favorable response to chemotherapy, and follow-up MRI revealed shrinkage of the tumor. Since the computed tomography findings resemble those of intracerebral hemorrhage, it

Myeloid Sarcoma: Case Series with Unusual Locations.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) or chloroma is a localized mass composed of blastic cells of granulocytic lineage. It is a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia and usually presents as a complication of acute myeloid leukemia, myeloid dysplastic syndrome, or myeloproliferative disorder. MS occurs in 2.5-9.1% of patients with AML, precedes the clinical disease, coincidence with the onset or at relapse and in rare conditions, it can occur with no evidence of hematologic disorders. Here, we presented seven cases of MS in unusual locations or with rare presentations at presentation or relapse. We concluded that

Microtransplantation for myeloid sarcoma: Two case reports.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS), is a rare extramedullary tumor with a poor prognosis and high recurrence rate. Microtransplantation is one of the alternative methods of traditional transplantation, which does not rely on HLA complete matching, has low toxicity and may retain part of graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect. It has been reported that microtransplantation can significantly improve the survival rate of elderly AML patients. At present, there is no report on the application of micro transplantation in MS. We will report two cases of MS treated by micro transplantation. The disease-free survival w

Cardiac Myeloid Sarcoma: A 1-kg Heart.

A 53-year-old man with a background of acute myelomonocytic leukemia in remission presented with pleurisy. Repeat transthoracic echocardiography over several weeks revealed thickening left ventricular walls and decreasing systolic function. He died of decompensated heart failure due to cardiac myeloid sarcoma, with autopsy revealing an enlarged heart weighing >1 kg. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.).

Gastric myeloid sarcoma without acute myeloblastic leukemia.

Myeloid sarcomas (MS) involve extramedullary blast proliferation from one or more myeloid lineages that replace the original tissue architecture, and these neoplasias are called granulocytic sarcomas, chloromas or extramedullary myeloid tumors. Such tumors develop in lymphoid organs, bones (e.g., skulls and orbits), skin, soft tissue, various mucosae, organs, and the central nervous system. Gastrointestinal (GI) involvement is rare, while the occurrence of myeloid sarcomas in patients without leukemia is even rare. Here, we report a case of a 38-year-old man who presented with epigastric pain

Orbital myeloid sarcoma presenting as massive proptosis.

A 10-year-old boy presented with right proptosis for 8 months. The eyeball was grossly pushed down, with diffuse corneal haze and non-reactive pupil. Systemic examination was normal. Previous investigations in another centre included a computerized tomography scan, which showed a well-defined enhancing retro-bulbar mass, a non-contributory fine needle aspiration cytology and a biopsy showing fibrocollagenous tissue with moderate lympho-monocytic infiltrate suggestive of non-specific inflammation. PET-CT scan revealed the presence of enlarged fluoro-deoxyglucose-avid cervical and mesenteric lym

Orbital Myeloid Sarcoma: An Initial Presentation of Acute Myeloid Leukemia With Maturation.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is predominantly an adult disease, with significantly lower incidence in children. Myeloid sarcoma (MS), an extramedullary manifestation of AML, can occur in various tissues, though it is exceptionally rare in the orbit. The variable nature of MS complicates its diagnosis and treatment. In this report, we present the case of an eight-year-old boy who exhibited bilateral proptosis and an orbital mass. Initial investigations revealed thrombocytopenia and leukopenia. Imaging tests confirmed an expansive retroorbital lesion. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated positivity

Colonic Myeloid Sarcoma as a Rare Presentation of Relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS), an extramedullary tumor of immature granulocytic cells, affects the gastrointestinal tract in approximately 10% of cases. MS involvement of the colon and rectum is considered to be extremely rare. We present a 36-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia and allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplant 2 years before who was admitted with abdominal pain and nonmucous, nonbloody diarrhea. Colonoscopy revealed an ulcerated mass in the proximal colon, and biopsies showed MS compatible with acute myeloid leukemia relapse.

Genomic analysis in myeloid sarcoma and comparison with paired acute myeloid leukemia.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) characterized by extramedullary proliferation of myeloid blasts. Owing to the rarity of MS, the clonal evolution of cell populations giving rise to MS is not well understood. To study the genomic signature of MS, we used a capture-based next-generation sequencing panel targeting 479 cancer genes to interrogate the genetic variants present in MS samples and compared their genetic profiles with their paired AML samples from a cohort of seven individuals. We identified a spectrum of single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) and

Acute myeloid leukaemia diagnosed by intra-oral myeloid sarcoma. A case report.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary malignant tumor composed of immature myeloid cells. It is strongly associated with a well known or covert acute myeloid leukaemia, chronic myeloproliferative diseases or myelodysplastic syndromes. Intraoral MS scarcely occurs. An unusual case of acute myeloid leukaemia, which was diagnosed by mandibular MS that was developed in the alveolar socket after a dental extraction, is reported. The histological examination (including immunohistochemical analysis) of a subsequent biopsy showed infiltration of the oral mucosa by neoplastic cells. This lesion

Relapsed acute myeloid leukemia presenting as conjunctival myeloid sarcoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Conjunctival myeloid sarcoma (MS) as an isolated presentation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) relapse is rare. Here, we report a case of unilateral conjunctival MS revealed as a sign of AML relapse. CASE PRESENTATION: A 50-year-old man with a history of AML in remission visited our clinic presenting with a left conjunctival injection persisting for 1 month. Diffuse subconjunctival thickening with conjunctival vascular engorgement was observed. Ultrasound biomicroscopy revealed a hyper-reflective, thickened conjunctiva in his left eye. During the incisional biopsy, the lesion was s
