Ninety-eight females with congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to a defect in either the 21-hydroxylase or the 11 beta-hydroxylase enzyme were evaluated to determine the effects of glucocorticoid treatment on growth, pubertal development, and fertility. When treatment was begun prior to one year of age, mean final height was 157.4 +/- 7.3 com, well within the normal adult female range, and significantly (p less than 0.001) greater than the mean final height of 150.9 +/- 4.3 cm found in untreated patients. RESEARCH QUESTION: Are age-normalized reference values for human ovarian cortical follicular density adequate for tissue quality control in fertility preservation?
DESIGN: Published quantitative data on the number of follicles in samples without known ovarian pathology were converted into cortical densities to create reference values. Next, a sample cohort of 126 girls (age 1-24 years, mean ± SD 11 ± 6) with cancer, severe haematological disease or Turner syndrome were used to calculate Z-scores for cortical follicular density based on the reference values.

Delayed sexual maturation is a known complication of celiac disease (CD). There is paucity of data regarding the effect of gluten-free diet (GFD) on sexual maturity in patients with CD in India. We did a cross-sectional observational study to assess the sexual maturity in 30 adolescents with CD on GFD for at least 1 year, and evaluated factors which affect their sexual maturity. Eleven cases of thrombocytopenic purpura (TP) in sexually mature male or female Göttingen minipigs occurred sporadically over 3 1/2 years in a closed breeding colony protected by strict barrier conditions.
