Cellular immune responses were observed in the skin of sheep after primary and secondary infection with sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina) larvae. Both primary and secondary infections resulted in a massive cellular infiltration within 48 h of wound initiation, with the majority of cells having the CD45 phenotype. Neutrophils comprised the major cell type at the skin surface. Post-mortem examinations on 71 native sheep found dead on the island of North Ronaldsay, Orkney in four visits between April 1983 and July 1985 were carried out. The excretion of Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) in the faeces and milk, and humoral immunity against Lm, were examined in a sheep flock with outbreaks of listeric encephalitis and in a flock with outbreaks of listeric abortion. In a series of three experiments, isolates of Pasteurella haemolytica biotype A, serotype 2, ribotype reference WSU-1, from healthy domestic sheep, were inoculated intratracheally into eight bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis canadensis) and seven domestic sheep with doses of bacteria ranging from 5.3 x 10(8) to 8.6 x 10(11) colony forming units. A 29-year-old sheep shearer collapsed after walking across a shearing shed floor, holding his hand over an incised wound to his neck. Attempted resuscitation was unsuccessful. At the death scene fine arterial blood spatter was noted and at autopsy a single incised wound to the neck was observed, the patterned edges of which corresponded to the teeth of the shears. Dissection revealed injury to the underlying jugular vein and the mid portion of the common carotid artery. Death was attributed to blood loss from an incised wound of the left side of the neck. The incidence of cryptorchidism in ram lambs of the North Ronaldsay breed was recorded between 1998 and 2005. The overall incidence of cryptorchidism was 7.4 per cent (ranging from 2.4 per cent to 18.2 per cent in different years). In 87.3 per cent of the cases only one testis was retained, with the right testis being affected in 78.5 per cent of all the cryptorchids.

This report describes the clinical and laboratory findings for 5 sheep from 3 different flocks with extensive proliferative skin lesions grossly resembling warts on the distal limbs. Two anasarcous foetuses of Awassi sheep are described. The foetuses were removed from the dams by caesarean section because of dystocia due to failure of cervical dilation. Uterine incision was made in situ because uteri were so distended they could not be brought out from the site of incision. Large quantities of uterine fluids and abnormal thick placentas were found.
