INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized not only by motor symptoms but also by non-motor impairments, including deficits in social cognition (SC), defined as the ability to recognize, interpret, and respond to others' emotions, intentions, and behaviors. Loneliness is a major concern for public health in contemporary societies. Older adults are particularly vulnerable to loneliness because of their reduced social connections following life changes, such as retirement. Loneliness is often investigated and discussed together with social isolation. While social isolation implies an actual lack of social connections, loneliness implies a perceived deficit of social relations regardless of the real amount of social contacts. However, since living alone may lead to loneliness, individuals can experience both loneliness and social isolation together.

In their understanding of extremism, social psychologists discuss the processes of social identity formation, self-categorization and categorization of the other. In this paper, we posit that these processes are related to basic, primitive unconscious mechanisms which have been overlooked in the literature on extremism. A bi-disciplinary model for the understanding of the extremist mindset is crafted, integrating the similarities between social psychology constructs and psychoanalytical themes. The proposed model rests on the assumption that there is no competition between the two paradigms.

BACKGROUND: Health disparities and the unequal distribution of social resources impact health outcomes. By considering social determinants of health (SDH), clinicians can provide holistic and equitable care. However, barriers such as lack of time or understanding of the relevance of SDH to patient care prevent providers from addressing SDH. Simulation curricula may improve learners' ability to address SDH in practice.

COVID-19 causes persistent symptoms such as weakness and myasthenia in most patients. Due to the cross-infection of COVID-19, the traditional face-to-face rehabilitation services are risky for the elderly. To ensure that the elderly in urgent need of rehabilitation services receive training while minimizing the disturbance of the COVID-19 pandemic on their social activities. We have improved the existing virtual upper limb training system, and added a social factor to the system. Seniors with upper limb rehabilitation needs can use the system to compete or collaborate with others for training.
