Differential Associations of Anticipatory and Consummatory Anhedonia With Depression and Social Anxiety Symptoms: A Network Analysis of University Students.

BACKGROUND: Depression and social anxiety are frequently co-occurring conditions that significantly impact young people. Anhedonia may be important to consider in early interventions for these conditions, but the roles of specific dimensions of anhedonia-anticipatory and consummatory-are not well understood. This study explored the symptom connectivity of depression and social anxiety in university students, focusing on how the two dimensions of anhedonia relate to symptoms of both conditions. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional network analysis of data from 672 university students (19-24

Intersectoral collaboration in the management of non-communicable disease's risk factors in Iran: stakeholders and social network analysis.

INTRODUCTION: As the major cause of premature death worldwide, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are complex and multidimensional, prevention and control of which need global, national, local, and multisectoral collaboration. Governmental stakeholder analysis and social network analysis (SNA) are among the recognized techniques to understand and improve collaboration. Through stakeholder analysis, social network analysis, and identifying the leverage points, we investigated the intersectoral collaboration (ISC) in preventing and controlling NCDs-related risk factors in Iran. METHODS: This is a …

#Me2PT: A qualitative analysis of a social media network campaign to raise awareness of the consequences of childhood sexual abuse.

BACKGROUND: Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is a highly prevalent and serious stressor, linked to short- and long-term psychopathology and to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) specifically. The hashtag #Me2PT, which stands for "me-too-post-trauma," was created in order to raise awareness of the longitudinal consequences of sexual abuse, as specifically manifested in symptoms of PTSD or complex PTSD. It was disseminated on social media networks during 2019 and offered a platform for CSA survivors to share their own personal experience of living with CSA-related posttraumatic symptoms. OBJECTIV

Social network analysis and whole genome sequencing in a cohort study to investigate TB transmission in an educational setting.

BACKGROUND: TB outbreaks in educational institutions can result in significant transmission and pose a considerable threat to TB control. Investigation using traditional microbiological and epidemiological tools can lead to imprecise screening strategies due to difficulties characterising complex transmission networks. Application of whole genome sequencing (WGS) and social network analysis can provide additional information that may facilitate rapid directed public health action. We report the utility of these methods in combination with traditional approaches for the first time to investigat…

The use of social network analysis to examine the transmission of Salmonella spp. within a vertically integrated broiler enterprise.

To better understand factors influencing infectious agent dispersal within a livestock population information is needed on the nature and frequency of contacts between farm enterprises. This study uses social network analysis to describe the contact network within a vertically integrated broiler poultry enterprise to identify the potential horizontal and vertical transmission pathways for Salmonella spp. Nodes (farms, sheds, production facilities) were identified and the daily movement of commodities (eggs, birds, feed, litter) and people between nodes were extracted from routinely kept farm r…

Effect of households' social networks on lice infestation among vulnerable Mexican children: a qualitative comparative analysis.

The prevalence of pediculosis is high among elementary and secondary school children, which favors the belief that infestation occurs more often in schools than in homes. This study explored the role of households' social networks in the transmission of head lice. Seventeen school children and their social networks (n = 22) from Acatlipa (Morelos, Mexico) participated in a prospective observational study during school vacation. The hair of all the school children was washed with shampoo containing permethrin at the beginning of the study and the incidence of pediculosis (O) was evaluated at th

Gender-biased clustering of attitudes towards physical intimate partner violence: A social network analysis in south-central Ethiopia.

Changing social norms, shared beliefs about what is acceptable, is a key focus of global health campaigns aimed at ending intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW). In Ethiopia, it is estimated that one in four women have been assaulted by a male partner, and over half the population hold attitudes supportive of this form of violence. To date, efforts to change people's attitudes towards IPVAW have been hindered by uncertainty over how social norms are acquired or learned. Here, we consider whether people's acceptance of IPVAW is maintained through social influence or "contagion," using

Unprotected sex of homeless youth: results from a multilevel dyadic analysis of individual, social network, and relationship factors.

Homeless youth have elevated risk of HIV through sexual behavior. This project investigates the multiple levels of influence on unprotected sex among homeless youth, including social network, individual, and partner level influences. Findings are based on analyses of an exploratory, semi-structured interview (n = 40) and a structured personal network interview (n = 240) with randomly selected homeless youth in Los Angeles. Previous social network studies of risky sex by homeless youth have collected limited social network data from non-random samples and have not distinguished sex partner infl

Social network analysis of tail-biting interactions among growing-finishing pigs with intact tails housed in two group sizes.

Tail biting compromises the welfare and performance of pigs. Understanding the dynamics of this behavior is essential for developing management strategies to minimize outbreaks. We used social network analysis (SNA) to evaluate the effect of group size on tail-biting interactions among pigs and to examine differences in tail-biting network position between barrows and gilts and biters and non-biters. Pigs (n = 315, initial weight = 22.1 ± 3.76 kg) with intact tails of mixed sexes were housed in small (9 pigs/pen) or large (18 pigs/pen) pens on slatted floors for 14 wk until market weight (120.…

Identifying Core and Bridge Nodes of Psychological Capital and Social-Emotional Competence Among Medical Students: A Network Analysis Study.

PURPOSE: Most existing studies adopt traditional regression models to examine either psychological capital or social‑emotional competence in isolation. Few integrate these two sets of multi‑dimensional positive psychological resources within a unified network framework, hindering the exploration of their complex patterns of covariation. This study therefore aimed to identify core and bridge nodes of psychological capital and social‑emotional competence among medical students using network analysis, so as to provide potential targets for positive‑psychological interventions. METHODS: A cross-s

Building bridges, breaking silos: a social network analysis of collaboration in an implementation science center for addiction health services.

BACKGROUND: Large scale collaborative or research centers are designed to accelerate scientific progress, promote sustained collaboration, and bridge gaps across areas of expertise. Traditionally, metrics of evaluation for such centers have focused on quantifiable outcomes, such as number and impact of publications. These take time to materialize yet formation, growth, and evolution of collaborative ties, which are fundamental to achieve these quantifiable outcomes, are seldom examined. PURPOSE: To investigate collaborative ties, we applied social network analysis to the NIH-funded Center for…

Bridging Social Determinants of Health and Multidimensional Frailty Among Older Adults: A Domain-Specific Latent Class and Network Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Social determinants of health (SDoH) are increasingly recognized as key contributors to frailty, yet their multidimensional associations remain underexplored. This study examined how multiple SDoH domains and specific variables relate to distinct frailty domains among Chinese community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: We analyzed 10,654 adults aged ≥ 60 years in the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Five SDoH domains, defined by the Healthy People 2030 framework, were assessed: Economic Stability, Education Access and Quality, Health Care Access and Quality, Neig

Social Network Clustering Analysis for Detection of Associated Genetic Co-Mutations in Patients with Actionable Driver Mutations in NSCLC.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) exhibits genomic heterogeneity that affects tumor immunogenicity and PD-L1 expression. Patient clustering based on shared mutational profiles using social network analysis (SNA) has been narrowly explored. The study aimed to identify subgroups of NSCLC patients with similar somatic mutation profiles using network-based modularity clustering, and to compare these groups with respect to PD-L1 expression, Tumor mutation burden (TMB), and clinical variables. Data of patients with stage 4 (metastatic) NSCLC, whose tumor tissue samples were collected between 2022 a…

The role of academic performance, prosocial behaviour and friendships on adolescents' preferred studying partners: A longitudinal social network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Peers constitute an important developmental context for adolescent academic behaviour providing support and resources to either promote or discourage attitudes and behaviours that contribute to school success. When looking for academic help, students may prefer specific partners based on their social goals regarding academic performance. AIMS: Based on the social goals for wanting to achieve academically (e.g., studying to be with friends, increasing/maintaining their own social status), we examine the extent to which adolescents' selection of preferred academic partners (with who

Social network interventions for dietary adherence among adults with type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Optimal adherence to recommended diets is crucial to achieving long-term glycaemic control among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) individuals. However, there is limited evidence on the effectiveness of interventions that target dietary adherence through social networks. Since social networks can influence individuals' health behaviours, it is important to thoroughly evaluate the impact of social network interventions on dietary adherence in adults with T2D. This systematic review protocol aimed to provide insights into future interventions and improve diabetes management st
