Simple cysts of the testis are rare benign lesions of uncertain etiology. We report 2 spermatozoa-containing cysts of the rete testis found incidentally in the left testicle of a 56-year-old man evaluated by ultrasound for hydrocele. The presence of spermatozoa in the cyst fluid has not been observed previously and confirms the connection of the cysts with the seminiferous tubular system.

A 4-year-old Corriedale ram, with a history of infertility, had 50% abnormal acrosomes in the ejaculate resembling knobbed spermatozoa. Electron microscopic profiles of the apical segment of the affected acrosomes revealed a membrane-enclosed inclusion or cyst filled with particulate matter. Acephalic spermatozoa syndrome is a rare type of teratozoospermia, but its pathogenesis is largely unknown. Here, we performed whole-exome sequencing for 34 patients with acephalic spermatozoa syndrome and identified pathogenic variants in the X-linked gene, ACTRT1, in two patients.
