Retrospective Case Analysis of 104 Cases of Talipes Equinus.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

A retrospective study of 104 patients (81 male and 23 females, the age range from 2 to 288days) with talipes equinus was conducted to explore the case factors associated with it. We analyzed and discussed the correlation of plaster correction times, age of first visit, gender, and birthplace of patients in the department and understood their correlation and causality. The data were analyzed using frequency analysis, normality test, chi-square goodness-of-fit test, chi-square test, and PLS regression. The findings are set out below. All the distributions of the number of plaster casts in the sa…

Parental consanguinity and associated factors in congenital talipes equinovarus.

BACKGROUND: The cause of congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) is multifactorial and, consanguinity could be one of the causative factors in its development. The purpose of this study was, to determine the prevalence of parental consanguinity in CTEV and other factors like associated, congenital anomalies, maternal and fetal factors and also the severity of CTEV in these patients. METHODS: The above factors were studied in 54 patients of less than 1 month of age with parental, consanguinity and 91 feet were evaluated for its severity using Dimeglio classification at the time of presentation. …

Impact of congenital talipes equinovarus etiology on treatment outcomes.

Although congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) is often idiopathic, additional birth defects occur in some patients that may have an impact on the treatment of this disorder. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of associated malformations, chromosomal abnormalities, or known genetic syndromes, and to compare treatment outcomes of children with idiopathic CTEV with children with non-idiopathic CTEV. Of 357 children evaluated, 273 (76%) had idiopathic CTEV (179 males, 94 females; mean age 2 y 1 mo [SD 1 y 2 mo], range 0-18 y) and 84 (24%) had non-idiopathic CETV (51 males, …

Congenital talipes equinovarus in spina bifida: treatment and results.

The results of the surgical treatment of clubfoot deformity in spina bifida by radical posteromedial-lateral release (PMLR) are presented. In all cases, the Cincinnati incision was used and the tendons excised, including the anterior tibial tendon. In 21 feet, a special K-wire was used to derotate the talus in the ankle mortise. The minimum follow-up was 2 years. The average age at surgery was 14 months. The overall results showed 63% good, 14% fair, and 23% poor results. In the 21 feet in which the talus K-wire was used, 76% had a good result, 14% fair, and 10% poor. The results were also ana

Procedural Pain Management During Tenotomy for Congenital Talipes Equinovarus.

The majority of infants with congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) require tenotomy of the tendoachilles. The pain response of this procedure in the awake infant has not been previously reported. In this observational study, multimodal pain management strategies, including oral sucrose, oral paracetamol, topical anesthetic, local anesthetic, a pacifier (dummy), and swaddling, were used. Physiological responses and pain were recorded. Pain was rated out of 10 at regular intervals, using the Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability (FLACC) scale. Ninety-one infants (65 men, mean age = 53 day…

Facial features in children with idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus.

We assessed whether there is a recognisable pattern of facial morphology in photographs of a series of 62 children with idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV). Photographs were scored for a number of facial characteristics by a research team comprising orthopaedic surgeons and clinical geneticists, to identify a subgroup of children with idiopathic CTEV, who shared characteristic facial features. Seven children were identified as having a "CTEV face". There was good correlation between the "CTEV face" and the individual facial features. Repeatability of the assessment was good, and t…

Seasonal distribution of idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus in Scotland.

Idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus has a reported prevalence of between 0.64 and 2.5 per thousand live births in the Scottish population. A retrospective study of neonates (n=162), who presented with idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus in Scotland over a 3 year period (1994-1996) revealed a seasonal increased incidence of the condition in neonates born in March and April. The probable aetiological factors for congenital talipes equinovarus are discussed.

Outcome of fetal talipes following in utero sonographic diagnosis.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the association between fetal talipes and other defects, and outcome in relation to postnatal surgery. METHODS: All cases of talipes presenting to the fetal medicine unit between 1993 and 1998 and cases of isolated talipes presenting to the ultrasound department between 1991 and 1998 were examined. The infants were followed-up to determine the number of cases that had structural or positional talipes and the number of cases requiring surgery. RESULTS: There were 76 cases, 59 of which attended the fetal medicine unit and 17 the ultrasound department. Postnatal follow-up…

Resistant talipes equinovarus associated with congenital constriction band syndrome.

Thirty-seven clubfeet in 28 patients with concomitant congenital constriction band syndrome were reviewed. The bands were considered to be of significance if located in the calf region (zone 2). The severity of the bands was classified. Grade 1 bands involved subcutaneous tissue, grade 2 bands extended to the fascia, grade 3 bands extended to the fascia and required release, and grade 4 bands were congenital amputations. The patients were divided based on neurologic deficit. Group A consisted of 26 clubfeet without neurologic deficit and had 1.4 surgeries per clubfoot. Group B consisted of 11

MR evaluation of talonavicular angle in congenital talipes equinovarus.

The talonavicular relationship in 14 patients with talipes equinovarus was quantified using gradient echo sequences. The angle formed between the short axis of the navicular and the long axis of the talus was measured. There is a significant difference in the talonavicular angle between patients who had posteromedial release (PMR) and those who had posterior release (PR) or casting only (P=.0004). This method provides an objective assessment of residual deformity following surgical and conservative management of talipes equinovarus.

Residual deformity following surgical treatment of congenital talipes equinovarus.

A study was carried out on 24 patients (36 clubfeet) surgically treated at the Orthopaedic Department National University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, over a period of four and half years. Nine feet underwent posterior release, 24 feet underwent posteromedial release combined with Evan's procedure. The overall operative result was 63.3% good, 9.5% fairly and 27.2% poor. Patients who underwent surgery between 3 to 12 months showed a high percentage of good results (66.7%). Metatarsal adduction was found to be the commonest residual deformity (63.9%), followed by heel varus (11.1%), cavus (11.1%)
