The Hamilton Anxiety Scale: reliability, validity and sensitivity to change in anxiety and depressive disorders.

The Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) was tested for reliability and validity in two different samples, one sample (n = 97) defined by anxiety disorders, the other sample (n = 101) defined by depressive disorders. The reliability and the concurrent validity of the HAM-A and its subscales proved to be sufficient. Internal validity tested by latent structure analysis was insufficient. The major problems with the HAM-A are that (1) anxiolytic and antidepressant effects cannot be clearly distinguished; (2) the subscale of somatic anxiety is strongly related to somatic side effects. The applicability

Psychometric properties of the dimensional anxiety scales for DSM-V in an unselected sample of German treatment seeking patients.

BACKGROUND: Dimensional assessments are planned to be included as supplements to categorical diagnoses in DSM-V. The aim of this study was to examine the unidimensionality, reliability, validity, and clinical sensitivity of brief self-rated scales for specific anxiety disorders in an unselected German sample of consecutive attendees to a psychological clinic. These scales use a common template to assess core constructs of fear and anxiety. METHODS: Dimensional scales for social anxiety disorder, specific phobia, agoraphobia, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder were administered a

Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents and School Anxiety Inventory: Psychometric properties in French adolescents.

School and social anxiety are common problems and have a significant impact on youths' development. Nevertheless, the questionnaires to assess these anxious symptoms in French adolescents have limitations. The SAS-A and the SAI were collectively administered in a sample of 1011 French adolescents (48.5% boys) ranging in age from 11 to 18 yea

Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1,021 medical postgraduates from six polyclinic hospitals. Internal consistency and convergent validity of the GAD-7 were evaluated. Factor analyses were used to test the construct v

[A study on the psychological status of perioperative patients (II)].

In order to study the changes of the psychological status during perioperative period, we performed four different psychological tests, Spielberger's rating scale "The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)", Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Maudsley Personality Inventory (MPI) and Baum test, in 63 patients who received simple total hysterectomy for myoma of uterus. The anxiety ratings showed a significant decrease postoperatively. On the contrary, the SDS index that expresses the level of depressive mood showed no significant change during perioperative period. Moreover the patients who had

Incidence and assessment of mechanical allodynia and its association with dental anxiety in endodontic pain: A clinical study.

CONTEXT: Mechanical allodynia (MA) refers to pain elicited by normally nonpainful stimuli. Clinically healthy teeth may exhibit MA in relation to an endodontically diseased tooth. AIMS: The study aimed to assess the prevalence of MA in healthy teeth ipsilateral, contralateral, and opposing teeth to an endodontically diseased tooth, and its association with patient anxiety. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: A cross-sectional observational study evaluating patients presenting with endodontic pain. Favorable effect of Karate Kata on self-esteem, anxiety and fatigue in people living with HIV.

In the general population, and among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV), sport activity is associated with better health, physically and psychologically. HIV is associated with low self-esteem. We hypothesized that Karate Kata practice could improve self-esteem in PLHIV. We conducted an interventional study with PLHIV in long-term care in our hospital. The main objective was to assess the effect of Karate Kata practice on self-esteem. The secondary objectives were to assess the effect of karate Kata on mood states, sleep, pain, balance and cognitive functions. The program

Dimensional anxiety scales for DSM-5: sensitivity to clinical severity.

PURPOSE: Psychometric properties and clinical sensitivity of brief self-rated dimensional scales to supplement categorical diagnoses of anxiety disorders in the DSM-5 were recently demonstrated in a German treatment seeking sample of adults. The present study aims to demonstrate sensitivity of these scales to clinical severity levels. METHODS: The dimensional scales were administered to 102 adults at a university outpatient clinic for psychotherapy. Diagnostic status was assessed using the Munich-Composite International Diagnostic Interview. To establish a wide range of clinical severity, we
