BACKGROUND: Cutaneous melanomas are diagnosed worldwide in 231,130 patients per year. The sensitivity and specificity of melanoma diagnosis expresses the need for an additional diagnostic method. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has shown that it allows morphological (qualitative) description of image features and quantitative analysis of pathology related light scattering by means of the attenuation coefficient (μoct ).
OBJECTIVE: We hypothesize that OCT images of nevi will differ qualitatively and quantitatively from melanomas.
METHODS: Forty lesions from 33 consecutive patients were ima

OBJECTIVES: Acquired subglottic stenosis in a newborn is often associated with prolonged endotracheal intubation. This condition is generally diagnosed during operative endoscopy after airway injury has occurred. Unfortunately, endoscopy is unable to characterize the submucosal changes observed in such airway injuries. Other modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and ultrasound, do not possess the necessary level of resolution to differentiate scar, neocartilage, and edema. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging modality that produces high-resolution, cr

CASE REPORT: A 40 year-old man with advanced pigmentary glaucoma in the left eye underwent trabeculectomy. In the immediate postoperative period, visual acuity decreased with no alterations noted on examination of the fundus or on angiofluoresceingraphy. Through optical coherence tomography, we were able to make a diagnosis of hypotonic maculopathy and treatment was immediately started.
DISCUSSION: Hypotony maculopathy is one of the most feared complications of filtering eye surgery. In some cases, optical coherence tomography can be useful to confirm its diagnosis non invasively.

PURPOSE: To assess the potential of a new imaging technique, optical coherence tomography, for the diagnosis and monitoring of central serous chorioretinopathy. Optical coherence tomography is a novel noninvasive, noncontact imaging modality that produces high longitudinal resolution, cross-sectional tomographs of ocular tissue.
METHODS: Optical coherence tomography is analogous to ultrasound, except that it uses light rather than sound to obtain higher image resolution in the retina. Cross-sectional tomographs of optical reflectivity within the retina are produced with longitudinal resolutio

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a new technique for performing high-resolution, cross-sectional tomographic imaging in human tissue. OCT is analogous to ultrasound B mode imaging except that it uses light rather than acoustical waves. As a result, OCT has over 10 times the resolution of currently available clinical high-resolution cross-sectional imaging technologies. In this work, we investigate the capability of OCT to differentiate the architectural morphology of pancreatobiliary tissues. Normal pancreatobiliary tissues, including the gallbladder, common bile duct, pancreatic duct, an

Choroidal thickness is associated with many ocular conditions, interchangeability among different generations of optical coherence tomography is therefore important for both research purpose and clinical application. Hence, we compared choroidal thickness measurements between spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) in healthy paediatric eyes. A total of 114 children from the population-based Hong Kong Children Eye Study with mean age of 7.38 ± 0.82 years were included. Choroidal thickness of the right eye was measured by both

BACKGROUND: Enhanced S-cone syndrome is an autosomal recessive retinal dystrophy related to a defect in a nuclear receptor gene (NR2E3) that leads to alteration in cells development from rod to S-cone. This retinal dystrophy may be associated with retinal schisis. The aim of this report is to describe structural optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography features in a case of enhanced S-cone syndrome associated with macular schisis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A Caucasian 13-year-old girl underwent measurement of best corrected visual acuity, ophthalmoscopic evaluation,

BACKGROUND: The bleb-forming surgical spectrum in open-angle glaucoma has recently been expanded by novel surgical approaches. Through a medical device implantation (Xen Gel Stent (XGI) or Preserflo Microshunt (PMI)), these procedures aim at more standardised aqueous humour shunting and an intra- and postoperative risk reduction. Postoperatively, however, XEN, PMI and trabeculectomy share their dependence on the proper function of the filtration bleb. This review summarises available literature on anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT)- and AS-OCT angiography (AS-OCTA)-based bl
