Dental trauma is a common oral condition in children. For single-type trauma to young permanent teeth, timely treatment often results in a high survival rate for both the teeth and the pulp. However, in cases of complex dental trauma or when supernumerary teeth are impacted near the apex of the injured tooth, the prognosis is less predictable. This article reports a case of root fracture in an immature maxillary permanent central incisor combined with impacted supernumerary tooth in the apical region. After supernumerary tooth extraction and pulp revascularization therapy, the case demonstrate

BACKGROUND: Implant placement accuracy in the distal free-end posterior region is often compromised, increasing the risk of damage to adjacent anatomical structures and negatively affecting restoration function, occlusal loading, and aesthetics.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the accuracy of implant placement using static computer-assisted implant surgery (CAIS) in the posterior distal free-end partially edentulous area with varying cantilever lengths and to evaluate the correlation between cantilever length and implant deviations.

Apexification procedure on a necrotic, infected tooth with an open apex is achievable if the canal is adequately disinfected. This case report aims to add an endodontic case to the body of knowledge currently available on the application of concentrated growth factor (CGF). A 24-year-old man with a history of a fall 15 years earlier developed apical periodontitis and pulpal necrosis in his maxillary central incisor with an open apex. Following the preparation of the access cavity, a solution containing 20 mL of sodium hypochlorite solution (5.25%) and 10 mL of 0.2% chlorhexidine was used to ir

The radicular cyst arises from epithelial remnants stimulated to proliferate by an inflammatory process originating from pulpal necrosis of a non-vital tooth. Radiographically, the classical description of the lesion is a round or oval, well-circumscribed radiolucent image involving the apex of the tooth. Radicular cyst is usually sterile unless it is secondarily infected. This article presents a successful case of conservative non-surgical management of an infected radicular cyst associated with an immature permanent mandibular second molar (47) in a 14-year-old child.

The extent to which root growth and tooth eruption can be influenced by irradiation trauma was studied in beagle dogs. A cobalt 60 teletherapy apparatus with various dosages between 600 rad and 2400 rad was used to inflict the trauma on the maxilla and mandible. The results showed that the delay in tooth eruption was dependent on the dosage, but erruption could not be hindered. Longitudinal growth of the roots of irradiation, independent of the level of the dose. The periodontal fibers were normally aligned as with healthy teeth; the apex was formed predominantly by surplus cellular cement.

Ghost images are artefacts of anatomical structures or foreign objects that oral and maxillofacial surgeons should take into consideration to prevent misdiagnosis and mistreatment. A 38-year-old male patient referred to our clinic for dental implant treatment. Orthopantomograph (OPG) revealed an impacted distomolar at the apex of maxillary right third molar and an ectopic supernumerary tooth in the left maxillary sinus. Despite the ectopic supernumerary tooth appearance on OPG, cone beam computed tomography images revealed that there was not a supernumerary tooth in the left maxillary sinus. N

An apical lesion is caused by bacteria invading the tooth apex through caries. Periodontal disease is caused by plaque accumulation. Peri-endo combined lesions include both diseases and significantly affect dental prognosis. The lack of clear symptoms in the early stages of onset makes diagnosis challenging, and delayed treatment can lead to the spread of symptoms. Early infection detection is crucial for preventing complications. The 11-year-old boy was diagnosed with severe external root resorption of the tooth 11 and chronic exacerbated apical periodontitis of the tooth 12. Additionally, the tooth 12 showed signs of dilaceration. The history revealed that at the age of 5, the boy had dislocated his maxillary deciduous incisors with impaction to the tissues. The root canal treatment of the teeth 11 and 12 was performed with the application ofBiopulp, Jodoform, and Metronidazole paste to the canal. The dressings were changed every 4 weeks for 6 months. The root canals of both teeth were filled with the Resilon Epiphany

BACKGROUND: Forced eruption of an impacted tooth usually requires surgical and orthodontic interventions to successfully bring the tooth into the dental arch. The clinical time required for a forced eruption is difficult to predict before treatment begins and success rates are affected by several factors before and after an eruption. This study was conducted to identify factors that affect the success of forced eruption, the duration of orthodontic treatment of impacted teeth, and the reasons for re-operation and forced eruption failure in a various teeth and cases.
METHODS: In this retrospec

OBJECTIVE: Cleidocranial dysostosis (CCD) is a skeletal disorder associated with dental anomalies such as failure or delayed eruption of permanent teeth and multiple impacted supernumerary or permanent teeth. Absence of cellular cementum at the root apex is presumed to be one of the factors for failure or delayed eruption. The aim of this study was to analyze the root cementum of supernumerary(S) and permanent teeth (P) of a CCD patient and to compare the findings with those of normal individuals with special emphasis on delayed eruption.

INTRODUCTION: Dental pulp regeneration is challenging in endodontics. Cellular therapy is an alternative approach to induce dental pulp regeneration. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have the capacity to induce dental pulp-like tissue formation. In this study, we evaluated the capacity of allogeneic bone marrow MSCs (BM-MSCs) to regenerate pulp following necrosis and apical periodontitis in children's permanent immature apex teeth.
METHODS: Patients aged 8 to 12 years with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis were evaluated. The study included 15 teeth (13 incisors and 2 molars) from 14 pat

INTRODUCTION: External apical root resorption is nearly ubiquitous in people treated orthodontically. This study predicted the extent of external apical root resorption by the vector of the incisor movement.
METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography scans of 93 white American adolescents (45 boys, 48 girls) with a Class I malocclusion who received comprehensive orthodontics were analyzed. Half were treated with 4 first-premolar extractions, and the others were treated without extractions. An x, y, z coordinate system was registered on the maxillae, superimposing on foramina, to quantify vectors

OBJECTIVE: The optimal timing of functional endoscopic sinus surgery for odontogenic infections precipitated by retention cysts of the maxillary sinus was investigated.
METHODS: Five adults who underwent functional endoscopic sinus surgery were examined.
RESULTS: The root apexes of all teeth that had odontogenic infection protruded into the maxillary sinus. All teeth with odontogenic infections precipitated by the retention cysts had percussion pain, indicating they had periodontitis and pulpitis around the root apex. They were vital teeth, indicating they did not have pulp necrosis. The sma

A 24-year-old female patient reported with a mutilated maxillary left central incisor. The coronal tooth structure remaining was very less, discolored, and brittle. She gave history of trauma about 15 years back when the tooth got fractured. An intraoral periapical radiograph revealed an open apex and a large periapical lesion. The case was managed successfully by conservative means using intracanal calcium hydroxide and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apical barrier followed by a fiber post and a core. The final crown restored back esthetics and function. A 6-month follow-up demonstrated a c

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Periodontitis involves progressive loss of alveolar bone around the teeth. Hence, automatic alveolar bone loss measurement in periapical radiographs can assist dentists in diagnosing such disease. In this paper, we propose an automatic length-based alveolar bone loss measurement system with emphasis on a cementoenamel junction (CEJ) localization method: CEJ_LG.
METHOD: The bone loss measurement system first adopts the methods TSLS and ABLifBm, which we presented previously, to extract teeth contours and bone loss areas from periodontitis radiograph images. It then ap

Autotransplantation is a predictable treatment option to replace a missing tooth. In growing children, this treatment has the advantages that the development of the alveolar process is not hindered and that a donor tooth with an undeveloped apex is often available, ensuring the tooth remains vital after transplantation and endodontic treatment is not necessary. Child-specific considerations include the sometimes-limited cooperation of a young child, which can make treatment more difficult to perform for the oral healthcare provider. Additionally, treatment can be a potentially traumatic experi
