As the population ages, the prevalence of neurocognitive disorders is increasing. Among the earliest manifestations of these disorders, subjective cognitive decline (SCD) warrants particular attention, as it may represent an early indicator of future neurocognitive impairment. To address this issue, the CogniScan questionnaire was developed. This study aimed to examine its psychometric properties and to investigate factors associated with SCD, including anxiety and depressive symptoms, personality traits, and interoception. CogniScan, a questionnaire assessing five cognitive domains (memory, a

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is the most common form of diabetes in children in Western countries. There have been no large studies of childhood diabetes from India. We undertook the MEDI study (Multicenter Survey of Early Onset Diabetes in India) to assess the proportion of various subtypes of diabetes among the young subjects presenting to the endocrinology divisions of seven large teaching hospitals in different regions of India. In addition, we compared the clinical features of T1D and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Indian subjects. Patients with onset of disease at younger than 20 years of age were in

Type D personality, defined by the co-occurrence of negative affectivity and social inhibition, has been associated with poorer health outcomes in chronic diseases, including asthma. However, the psychological mechanisms underlying the relationship between Type D personality and asthma control remain unclear. This cross-sectional study included 150 adult patients with asthma recruited from a tertiary outpatient clinic. Participants completed the Asthma Control Test (ACT), Type D Personality Scale (DS-14), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quali

INTRODUCTION: Various strategies aim to better assess risks and refine prevention for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), who vary in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, the prognostic value of personality and its association with lifestyle factors remain elusive.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We identified 8794 patients with T2DM from the UK Biobank database between 2006 and 2010 and followed them up until the end of 2021. We assessed personality traits using the Big Five proxies derived from UK Biobank data: sociability, warmth, diligence, curiosity, and nervousness. Healt

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial factors like type D personality (TDP) and occupational burnout are associated with increased coronary artery disease risk. This cross-sectional study investigated a potential mechanism linking TDP, characterized by negative affectivity (NA) and social inhibition (SI), to coronary microvascular function in male physicians and examined burnout's potential moderating role through a balanced, stratified design.
METHODS: Sixty male physicians, evenly divided into burnout and nonburnout groups, underwent positron emission tomography to measure endothelium-dependent coronary

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease marked by the progressive immune-mediated destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta-cells. The clinical management of T1D is complicated by its heterogeneity and the variability in individual responses to treatment. Personalized medicine has emerged as a promising strategy to address these challenges by tailoring interventions to individual patient profiles. Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) - small, non-coding RNAs found in bodily fluids - represent potential biomarkers across various diseases, including T1D. This review examines the r

BackgroundAssuming the role of a caregiver for a person with Alzheimer's disease entails significant physical and psychological burden. This role is rarely taken on by choice, emerges as the disease progresses in a close family member. The caregiver's values and cultural context may play an important role in the decision to continue providing care. The duration of care and the severity of the disease's symptoms are direct factors contributing to burden, and depression. A caregiver's personality may determine how they respond to stressful situations, while knowledge of their system of values ma

Management of type 1 diabetes is constantly evolving. Hybrid closed loop technology is replacing multiple dose insulin and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusions as the preferred manner for managing type 1 diabetes in the community. Currently, there are no case reports or clinical guidelines to instruct practitioners on the safe peri-operative use of hybrid closed loop technology for patients requiring emergency surgery. In our case report we present the case of a 15-year-old male patient who required emergency surgery and wanted to continue the benefits of his hybrid closed loop technology

INTRODUCTION: Older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are increasingly numerous worldwide and present particularly difficult therapeutic challenges, especially concerning the proper selection of antidiabetic medications that offer the best efficacy/safety ratio in this age group.
AREAS COVERED: This narrative review summarizes progress toward personalized management involving a three-step process. First, patients should be categorized according to their frailty status. Second, glycemic targets should be properly individualized considering a higher risk of severe hypoglycemia in olde

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by a complete deficiency in insulin due to the destruction of pancreatic beta cells. Globally, T1D accounts for nearly 5-10% of the total diabetes cases. Living with this life-long condition has a significant emotional, psychological, physical, mental, and social impact. Despite extensive research characterizing the underlying physiology of T1D, additional work is needed to address the psychosocial aspects associated with the condition and its effect on the quality of life (QoL) of people living with T1D. One area that warr
