Changes in attitudes and beliefs about childhood vaccination among parents in the United States: A repeat cross-sectional survey before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Parental vaccine hesitancy and refusal worsened during the COVID-19 public health emergency, but little is known about parental attitudes toward vaccines in the post-emergency era. METHODS: Two internet-based cross-sectional surveys were conducted among parents of children aged <18 years in the United States (US) during the COVID-19 public health emergency (Survey 1; January-March 2022) and after the emergency ended (Survey 2; December 2023-March 2024). Participants were recruited from the National Health and Wellness Survey. Study participants completed a self-administered survey

What are the factors that contribute to parental vaccine-hesitancy and what can we do about it?

Parental refusal or delay of childhood vaccines is increasing. Barriers to vaccination among this population have been described, yet less is known regarding motivating factors. Researchers are beginning to evaluate various approaches to address the concerns of "vaccine-hesitant" parents, but few studies have evaluated the effect of interventions on timely vaccine uptake. Several models for communicating with vaccine-hesitant parents have been reported for healthcare providers; however, the effectiveness and utility of these strategies has not been quantified. This article reviews the known ba

Influenza vaccination: from epidemiological aspects and advances in research to dissent and vaccination policies.

Influenza is a serious public health problem, since seasonal epidemics affect approximately 5-10% of the population and thus give rise to a heavy social and healthcare burden. The heavy burden of disease is due to several factors, one of which is the biological features of the pathogen. Indeed influenza viruses display high mutation rates and undergo frequent genetic reassortment. Minor variations cause seasonal epidemics and major variations, which result from the hybridization of viruses typical of different animal species, can lead to pandemics. Vaccination remains the most efficacious mean

"It was tidak cocok (incompatible)": Incompatibility, Decoloniality, and Vaccine Hesitancy in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.

In 2018, vaccine hesitancy marked the nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign in the Indonesian province of Aceh. The hesitancy, which was supported by the provincial government, stemmed from concerns over porcine contamination in the vaccine product. "Tidak cocok" (incompatible) became a pervasive statement used to rationalize the refusal to participate in the vaccination program, permeated personal narratives, public responses to a vaccine allergy case, and an official meeting to determine the vaccination campaign's future. In this article, I theorize incompatibility as a lexical ite

Percutaneous extracorporeal life support for treatment of fatal mechanical complications associated with acute myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine hesitancy has intensified since COVID-19. In Türkiye, a performance-based family medicine system provides free vaccines. Before May 2024, physicians could remove refusals from metrics tied to pay deductions, obscuring true rates. A new policy mandating documentation created a natural experiment. We used population-based data to quantify these previously hidden dose-specific refusal rates across the childhood schedule. METHODS: We conducted a population-based ecological analysis of monthly dose-specific refusals among children aged 0-59 months in Balıkesir Province, in 2024

[Vaccination against influenza, pneumococcus and herpes zoster in the elderly Survey of prescribing physicians: assessment of knowledge and identification of obstacles to the prescription of vaccination].

Vaccination coverage is insufficient for influenza, pneumococcus, and herpes zoster in people over the age of 65 in France, even though these are common infectious diseases. Using a computerised questionnaire, the aim of our study was to assess the knowledge of general practitioners, geriatricians, infectious diseases specialists and interns in the Loire region about the vaccination against these three diseases in elderly subjects, to identify the obstacles to vaccination, and to evaluate whether the provision of knowledge modifies the prescriptions and vaccination recommendations made to pati

Prevalence and determinants of vaccine hesitancy in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina: A probabilistic household survey.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine hesitancy represents a growing challenge for immunization programs worldwide. In Latin America, population-based estimates derived from probabilistic surveys remain scarce, limiting the design of evidence-informed interventions. METHODS: We conducted a population-based study in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, between April and June 2025 using a stratified multistage probabilistic sampling design embedded within an official periodic household survey. A culturally adapted version of the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale was administered and psychometrically evaluated. Household-l

[VACCINATION: HUMAN RIGHT OR DUTY].

The article focuses on the fact that 2020 has become a new point in the history of mankind, irrevocably changing the ways of life accepted in society and forcing the entire population of the earth to live in a new way. If a person's health is threatened and / or worried about the thought of a terminal illness, it is difficult to focus on something else. Over the past year, many have experienced this reality for the first time. Effective January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus outbreak a health emergency, causing international concern. The fact that some cou

Missed Opportunities for Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccination Among Departing U.S. Adult Travelers Receiving Pretravel Health Consultations.

BACKGROUND: Measles outbreaks continue to occur in the United States and are mostly due to infections in returning travelers. OBJECTIVE: To describe how providers assessed the measles immunity status of departing U.S. adult travelers seeking pretravel consultation and to assess reasons given for nonvaccination among those considered eligible to receive the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine. DESIGN: Observational study in U.S. pretravel clinics. SETTING: 24 sites associated with Global TravEpiNet (GTEN), a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded consortium. PATIENTS: Adults (b

[THE VACCINATION CONTROVERSY IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN LONDON IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY: "NOTHING IS NEW UNDER THE SUN"].

In the last decade of the 19th century, some hundred years after the introduction of the smallpox vaccine, a heated controversy broke out in London regarding the compulsory vaccination of children against the disease. Amongst those affected by the legislation, mandating the immunization of children against smallpox was a Jewish father who was eventually imprisoned for refusing to have his son vaccinated. His grounds for refusal were his religious beliefs and it is with his case and its aftermath that the present article is concerned. The two major protagonists in the controversy were Chief Rab

Using the Diffusion of Innovation Theory to Understand COVID-19 Booster Hesitancy in Adults.

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy is well documented, but less is known about booster hesitancy among fully vaccinated adults. A qualitative approach was employed to identify factors affecting COVID-19 booster hesitancy using diffusion of innovation (DoI) theory. The study was conducted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In-depth interviews (n = 30) were done with adults, including those who had (n = 9) and had not (n = 21) been boosted. Participants were categorized into DoI adopter groups or a "refuser" group for those with no intention of getting boosted. Transcripts were analyzed using an iterative c

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy: Meaning relations between responses in an epidemiological study and twitter messages.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine hesitancy is a concerning public health issue, further amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic. Social media is an important player in this context, promoting the dissemination of both information and misinformation. Qualitative studies analyzing the meaning of social media contents in correlation with epidemiological data are scarce, and could aid our understanding of social media's impact on vaccine hesitancy. METHODS: In this study, we identified open-ended responses on reasons to refuse the COVID-19 vaccine collected in an epidemiologic study, and analyzed meaning relat
